hazerkeys
hello all - just need some advice (probably a past model) for a midi key board controller (37 or 49 keys) for my behringer model D module ...nothing fancy ...just regular size keys and pitch/mod wheels .... been looking, but there are so many that have way too many bells and whistles that I do not need - thanks in advance. AnotherScott
Samson Graphite 49 has more than you need, but it has a nice action and is still compact and well-priced. Quote Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
marino
I use a Carbon 49 for that. Not a great dynamic response, but the Model D doesn't need that. The feel of the keybed is fast/smooth enough for this application. It can be found used for rather cheap prices.
Shamanczarek
I too looked around for a modern controller for my Behringer Model D and just didn't find anything I thought was suitable. I tried several of my old and newer Keyboards as controllers none of which worked satisfactorily. Then I tried my old Korg Poly 800 which worked perfectly. What is great about the Poly 800 is that the D sits firmly on top putting it in easy reach so it operates like a single unit. The Poly 800 has 49-keys with the joystick controlling pitchbend as well as modulation. The bend range slider on the 800 quickly sets the bend range from 0 up to an octave. The 800's internal sequencer can control the D on a separate MIDI channel allowing you to manually play a second part on the 800. May not be a practical option unless you already happen to own one or can find a good deal on a used one but just letting you know what worked for me. Noah DC
I got the updated IK Irig Keys 2 Pro for my Model D - 37 keys and unlike the previous version, it can be used as a standalone controller (your intended purpose). Simple and without the functions of other controllers, but it also has the capacity to be plugged directly into a smartphone through IK proprietary cables and then send audio out from its 1/8th jack. That could be useful if the Model D ever went down/out of tune and you needed to use the iOS app in its place. uhoh7
Nektar T4 is my fav of the cheap controllers. If you call usually the price will drop to around 200. Novation Launchkey 37 is a good bargin, openbox Quote RT-3/U-121/Leslie 21H and 760/Saltarelle Nuage/MOXF6/MIDIhub, SL-880/Nektar T4/Numa Cx2/Deepmind12/Virus TI 61/SL61 mk2 Stylophone R8/Behringer RD-8/Proteus 1/MP-7/Zynthian 4 MPC1k/JV1010/Unitor 8/Model D & 2600/WX-5&7/VL70m/DMP-18 Pedals Natal drums/congas etc & misc bowed/plucked/blown instruments. Dr Mike Metlay
There are always the bottom-end M-Audio Keystations... but seriously, I would second the Graphite 49. Well under $200 and useful as something other than a D controller in a pinch.
