Kurzweil PC4 Pedals

CEB

Recommended Posts

It 3:30 am. I can"t sleep. I put a PC4 in my cart. I can"t find pedal specs. Does Kurz still use those 10k pedals? .... or can I configure the thing to take my Yamaha FC7 pedals?

Thanks

I hear you - I can't sleep either. Maybe because I slept through a really bad movie earlier.

I have a Forte & PC3 both of which use the same CC pedals and I can tell you that the FC7 does not work well. I even tried with the adapter that is supposed to work, but that messes up the response curve of the FC7. I currently use the Roland EV-5 pedals & couldn't be happier.... well I'm sure something could make me happier.

What do you mean when you say it messes up the response curve? I"ve been using a FC7 with my PC3x rewired as a Roland type pedal, i.e. wiper to tip (same as using an adapter) for years and it is perfectly linear over the entire throw of the pedal range- no dead space at all. I even have Dave Doerfler as a witness. :bang:

I"m using the built in midi utility to monitor the response but maybe you (and others) are going by what you hear in a particular program? It makes no sense that mine works fine and your"s doesn"t. :idk:

Agree with Marky. Although Kurz uses Roland specs (tip to wiper) I used an FC-7 with the ashby adapter and got a linear response as validated by "midiscope" (built in midi analyzer on the Kurz). I now use a Roland EV-7 which has a similar long sweep like the FC-7. I'd never us an EV-5 as the throw is too short for organ playing. Also as a footnote if you go to the pedals page inside the program or multi you can adjust the curve response of the expression pedal to your liking. The Kurz is a kick ass midi controller.

While you're waiting for the arrival of your k/b you might want to download the manual. VAST architecture is very deep and it took awhile for me to wrap my head around it. You can program the PC4 to do almost anything but you have to understand how VAST works in order for that to happen. It's not intuitive. Probably why the owners manual is 356 pages. The PC3 was 418 pages so there is actually less reading than I had to do.

I use a Boss FV-500L although haven't tried it for Kurz. I have a feeling it should work as well as the abovementioned Rolands.

It does. But there's a bit of dead space at the bottom of the throw and even more at the top (pedal to the metal) end. Each FV-500L may behave somewhat differently in this regard.

The Kurz is a kick ass midi controller.

The Studiologic model mentioned above does not work with the PC4 - well it works, but jumps from 0-127 in about the first inch of travel! You can do work-arounds using FUN, but both the Boss FV 50/500L, and the Roland Ev-5 do work as expected O.O.T.B.

There is no luck - luck is simply the confluence of circumstance and co-incidence...

Dave Weiser turned me onto the FV-500L years ago as they were using that on the Broadway shows. I had several of them and they were very sturdy but pretty heavy for lugging around to gigs with all of the other stuff I need to carry.

You did note that I included the "50" as well as the 500 ;) Only difference is 50 is plastic construction 500 is metal

I use a Moog EP-3 with my PC3. I'm used to the FC7s from my Yamaha boards and Korg (works with both), but the EP-3 is nice, light, and not super flimsy. It has a shorter travel than the FC7 but most other pedals do. I find I can adapt to it just fine. It works great with my PC3 (and Roland gear as well), and it can be polarity-flipped to work with other boards, so it's my recommendation.

I tried to use my FC7 on the PC4. All the change came it the first inch or so of travel. Useless

So I bought a Kurzweil pedal. Works great

Yes, it is 10K

I own 2 of the "Studiologic" branded Fatar VP/25 pedals and they work like a charme w/ my PC361 and without urgently tweakin´ FUNs.

The "Studiologic" label is on the bottom only and it´s 100% identical w/ Kurzweil CC-1.

BUT,- you can buy these pedals w/ different polarities,- "open-close" or vice versa,- at least from Fatar.

I cannot imagine Kurzweil still sells the CC_1 and changed specs.

Well, I bought from Thomann many years ago and it would be a shame when built quality changed that much.
