Muad’Dib
So, KORG is releasing the SQ 64 Poly Sequencer. Does anyone here use step sequencers, or just the regular sequencers found in music workstations? I.e. Hardware or software?
Dr Mike Metlay
I use all of the above. There are many different designs that encourage many different ways of working. A few, like the Cirklon, have such a specific and deep workflow that there was, for a while about a decade ago, an entire genre of Cirklon-based music (that started with its predecessor, the P3 MIDI sequencer). I have various step sequencers on iOS, in macOS, and in hardware: the latter in my MatrixBrute. I haven't used a realtime sequencer in hardware since I sold my Prophet-T8 in 1992-ish, but step sequencers are bread and butter for my genre of music. Your mileage will almost certainly vary. Muad’Dib
Thank you Mike! I had a KORG SQ-1 that I had bought to go with a KORG MS-20 mini, that unfortunately died. No idea what happened?
GovernorSilver
I've used the step sequencers in the Korg Volca Keys, Korg Monologue, and Arturia Microbrute. Step sequencers are useful for entering a melodic pattern, then exploring the changes in sound by tweaking knobs/faders as the melody plays over and over.
