If you mean the ferrite bead placed around the cable, from the functional point of view, it must make no difference. The ferrite is a measure mostly to reduce common mode RF emission/conduction through the cable (and we are talking mV tenths of mV levels here), and it must not affect the USB differential signals. One point for the cable with the bead is that it most likely is of better quality than the one without.

If you do not use the ferrite core, everything will burst into flames and there will be a smoldering crater left to remind people.

So leave the ferrite core off and give the cable to one of your enemies!

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

Apparently the 61 passed EMI emissions testing and the 76 didn"t. Ferrite core was the cheap and easy fix,

I"m not familiar with these keyboards but apparently the internal circuit cards are different for something. Do the 71 and 76 have different control panels or something?

Ann, I think you should be deploying your photoshop skills more often on the forum. This is gold.

Thank you..... but you may come to regret this statement.... :D

No it's the exact same controls and features except in a longer chassis. The 76 is newer and came out some year or 2 after the 61 and 88. Maybe they forgot a piece of shielding? Roland seems to be known for including this snap on ferrite piece. I searched roland ferrite and got several results. I just wondered if anybody successfully ignored the issue.

FunMachine.

For six generations, the Nord lead has come without the need for a ferrite choke, and life was pleasant.

Now, Roland requires a ferrite choke and look what happens.

We have murder hornets.

You do the math.
