desertbluesman
I was wondering if anybody on this forum has messed with Zoom? Where you can have a virtual; meeting with video and audio with your friends. In other words we can meet up, and chat with each other when and if we want to. You can see in real time in video and audio what the person you have been chatting with here for years with text only . Lets try to set that up in the near future. I just got off of a Zoom meeting with the wife's family in northern Ca. and also in my sister in laws house in our community. Anyone interested in that? skipclone 1
I went from having no idea, to using it four days out of the past seven. There are some serious security concerns but I have to admit, it's fun! Yes, would definitely be interested. Biggles
We had a Jam session using Zoom last week, the latency is an issue but it is possible. Normal chat is good but no different than using Skype, Facetime or other video chat apps. Quote Col
Larryz
As much as I would like to use Zoom, I'm advised not to due to security issues out of China. Quote Take care, Larryz
J. Dan
We had a zoom happy hour over on the keyboard corner a few weeks ago and are planning our second one for this Friday. It was a lot of fun "meeting" folks from the forum. It ended up lasting 4 hours! We had attendees from US, Canada, Belgium, Rome, Australia - trying to pick a time that works for everybody was the toughest part because it may be midnight for some people and 6 am for others. desertbluesman
I did not know there were security issues using Zoom. I may step back from using it (especially on my Windows 10 computer) until I find out more. I may just use my I-Pad which does not have very much of my data on it since I only use it for games. KuruPrionz
There are other options. OBS is a bit of a deep dive but versatile. I am still looking at it. For casual meetup - Google Contacts works fine. It's part of the Google suite, if you have a .gmail account you already have it. I use it for free long distance phone calls with a Rock Star USB mic I found at Goodwill for $3. You don't need your own phone number to call others, just theirs. We also used it to add one of my sisters to a family reunion with Mom, that time we had video too and Mom was delighted. EVERYTHING can be hacked but popularity creates targets. "Zoomed' is a new verb, it means somebody has hacked your conference and disrupted it in some absurd fashion - posting pornography was popular last week, who knows what this week? Quote It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.
skipclone 1
I decided to use it only on my phone. My PC has Linux mint which makes a lot of apps unusable anyway. Bluesape
I have heard of security issues as well. I don't store launch codes on my computer, but prefer not to use software with known glitches.
