Even in NYC the sight of a person in a chicken suit, with S&M leather accessories, standing in a busted up living room and taking orders, at the very least, makes me not want to eat chicken. I think I'm even a bit weirded out by Burger King at the moment. Reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre for some reason.

Not far - used to live on Booth Street across from the LIRR station (yup, our window was DIRECTLY across from the tracks), then Parker Towers and now we're just on the west side of Parker Towers. We've been southsiders all the way (of Queens Blvd that is).

Very cool, Phil. We were neighbors at one time I guess. I split in 95' for a better life here in SW. Florida..... and thankfully, I found it. ---Lee

Jeez, Forest Hills---

I lived on 68th Rd (off 108th St.) from 1964 to '67, then across Queens Blvd near Metropolitan Ave. until 1970. I moved there from Ohio during the last year of the World's Fair, and spend my 'formative years' on a Stringray bike with a banana seat and ramshorn handlebars (no sissy-bar, please) cruising through Flushing Meadow Park after the fair closed down. The 'Hall of Science', the 'Panorama of NY', Che Stadium (named after the famous revolutionary, Che Stadium)...what a life. Delivering the Long Island Press every afternoon on my bike, etc...

Are any of these pavilions still open? It must be almost 30 years since I've been back there...

-longing for an Austin St. slice and a coke,

-Tim from Jersey :thu:

Play. Just play.

First, my apologies to Burger King for hijacking their thread ;)

It's all still there, except Guiliani changed the name of the stadium from Che to Shea as part of his stomping out of crime and "revolutionary" types. The Hall of Science has been renovated and, while I haven't been there, my wife and daughter have they said it's great. I'm not sure about the Panorama of NY that you're thinking of, but a couple of years ago there was a panorama exhibit in flushing. I don't know if it was a new one, or a renovated one.

And Austin is still hopping (more of a dinner and movie crowd than a bar crowd, though). Most of the stores you'd remember are probably gone now ... replaced by stores with incredible return policies!!! In other words, the Gap, Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret and Ann Taylor Loft. Some really good restaurants, though, of all varieties ... great Cuban, Thai, Mexican, Italian (up on Metropolitan) and soon Hamburger's (Johnny Rockets is moving in). Most importantly, good ole american franchising is bringing us a Cold Stone Creamery!!! There's a Barnes & Noble too, and just like every normal town in America, no less than three Starbucks.

The bikes have been replaced too, sorry to report. Mountain bikes, scooters and rollerblades now.

It's still a great place, though. If you work in Manhattan, like I do, and have family and friends on Long Island, like I do, it's an unbeatable combination (well, a mansion and a helicopter would beat it, but I don't want to get too picky).

It ain't perfect. And I hope you two are enjoying the good life in Jersey and Florida.

Thanks, Phil!

I absolutely loved that town - it had it all for a young 'un.

..now I'm all nostalgic..

Well, I have to trip out to JFK next week - maybe I'll side-trip over for a quick drive-thru...

Thanks again!

-Tim, reluctantly from Jersey :thu:

The chicken can play drums!

Strangely, he didn't react to "kill yourself" maybe the site should be renamed "not quite 100% subservient chicken"?

Phil be sayin':

Actually, I miss very little of the city, but something tells me if I never was raised and edu-macated in New Yawk, I wouldn't be where and what I am today. Tis' a great place to "be from". I really love it here now. Some of the "big city" is getting to this coast of Florida, including better cuisine, entertainment, crime and shootings....but....whatchgonnado? ---Lee
