I just bought a new guitar!

My retail business has been really really good the past few months, so I started thinking about getting another Kiesel (formerly Carvin) custom built guitar. Tuesday night I was searching through their website trying to find a picture of this one guitar I saw before that I really liked the looks of. After an hour of unsuccessful searching, I gave up, and out of boredom I decided to look at their "Guitars In Stock" section. As I scrolled down, I came across the guitar in the picture. It was almost exactly like the guitar I was searching for, with a few very minor differences.

All day Wednesday I debated about whether I really needed another guitar, versus buying something else that I might want or actually need. Wednesday night I did some math, looked over my merchandise inventory, looked at my sales book for the last few months, and I decided that I can afford it, and I want it. So today, Thursday just after noon Eastern time, I called up Kiesel and asked if the $1,739.00 price was negotiable. The salesman, Keith, said probably not, but what did I have in mind? I told him I would offer $1,700.00 for the guitar, a case, and shipping. He told Jeff Kiesel, co-owner of Kiesel Guitars, about my offer, and a minute later said okay, but they'll ship it with a soft case instead of the pricier hard case. I gave him my Visa information, and my Christmas present to me should arrive next week. I'll write more about it when it gets here.

I rock; therefore, I am.

P90jr, the case would have been an additional $70, and the shipping another $35. So $70 + $35 + $39 = $144 saved. And I wasn't sure if they would budge on the price at all. If I would have tried a too low price, they might have hung up on me. They already had over $300 off the original price, so I knew I didn't have a lot of room to negotiate. I think I'm going to be pretty happy with this guitar.

d, the back isn't just a different finish, it's a different type of wood. The top is called an aquaburst finish, on flamed maple. The back is a clear gloss finish on the body wood, which is alder. The neck is hardrock maple, and the fretboard is birdseye maple. This guitar ought to have a bright clean bell-like sustain sound, which is exactly what I want.

It just arrived a little while ago by Fedex Ground. The Fedex driver told me that since the box said guitar on it, he was a little more careful with it. That is so nice that people have respect for other people's guitars. Anyways, I open it up, and it's inside a very well made black soft case that appears sturdier than many so-called hard cases. This guitar looks even nicer in person than in the picture. The clear gloss polyurethane finish gives the flamed maple top an almost 3D appearance. The neck has a tung oil finish instead of a gloss poly, and it feels so dry and slick and satin smooth. I played it for almost an hour, but not with an amplifier yet. It plays as beautiful as it looks. It has a thinner body than I expected, so it's pretty light weight compared to my Carvin CS6.

I'm hoping this is just a strange coincidence, but this is post number 666 for me here on the Guitar Player forums. But, I digress. If any of you are considering buying a Kiesel guitar, or having a really nice guitar custom built for you, I promise you will not be disappointed with a Kiesel (formerly Carvin ) guitar. Thanks for all the great replies here. I've been reading and re-reading them a lot, and I really appreciate all the fine compliments.

I knew before you answered the question that those were real abalone. They are Beautiful and I love the Birdseye maple! Is there a birds eye maple fretboard mounted on a hard rock maple neck (as that's what I'm reading in your description)? Now, when are you going to plug that baby in? :thu:
Take care, Larryz

No, genuine abalone inlays.

Kind of a silly question actually-sorry.

My two main electrics are the kind of guitars that, when you first get them they`re like, if I play it I may damage it. But they can make amazing sounds if you really play them. I would have the same reaction to this guitar.

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-
