Winter NAMM 2019 Planning

Geoff Grace

Recommended Posts

As most of you know, the 2019 Winter NAMM Show will begin Thursday, January 24th at the Anaheim Convention Center, and run through Sunday, the 27th. Like last year, there are three threads: 1) an advance thread for speculation, wish lists, and early product announcements, or "NAMMticipation" as I like to call it, 2) an advance thread for planning: how to get passes, when and where to meet up with other forum members, etc., and 3) the traditional NAMM Reports thread for product announcements, videos, and reports from members on what and who they saw at the Convention Center.

This, of course, is the planning thread.

Please post any Winter NAMM 2019 plans you'd like to make or questions you have about passes or lodging here.

Best,

Geoff

Whew close call. After 31 years straight, the company my friend gets the NAMM passes from cut back to only two. There are three of us that go down together every year. I was the odd man out. Luckily I was able to get one from my friend who's a Hammond Artist. So this will be I believe, by my count, #32.

As usual, I have failed to secure a pass. Planning has never been one of my strengths, I guess.

If any of the forum brethren have a pass to spare...

I think I might have helped you out in the past, no? I didn't renew my NAMM membership this year. I'm completely NAMMed/SoCaled out, for this year at least. Just my luck something really worthwhile gets shown.

Busch.

Yes, you did! As did Markyboard, but longer ago (back in the Gangnam-style days, lol).

I'm not attending this year but I believe I can help you out. Of course I have to run it by the Little Gray Electronics Board of Directors. I believe 2 of the members will be present and are easily bribed...err I mean persuaded by buying them a drink on the show floor.

Yes! I'd much rather provide libations than impersonate Asian novelty celebs. ;)

I

Guys.. I am going with a group of 4. Any suggestions for lodging near NAMM?

I just booked 4 nights in Anaheims Motel 6 for Disneyland.

Only 186 with tax.

Id suggest pre paying now for NAMM there.

Im never in the room and sometimes never even make it back there when Im at NAMM.

So while its not top shelf, its proximity and price is fine for me.

It will fill up through NAMM really soon, I was surprised I got a last minute Christmas reservation so easily.

Hi everybody...my first post here.

When I'm actually not working at the NAMM, I kind of plan my visit ahead of time. Last year though, I didn't do that. I decided to just take my chances and be totally spontaneous about it. I did meet a lot of new people that I would not have met otherwise...but I don't think I'll do that again. I don't micromanage the visits, but it's nice to hit the points of interest first and then check out new random stuff.

By the way, it's not really that hard to get a badge. You don't have to get it through a company. Example: If you're a part time music director, keyboardist, organist...for a Church, you can register with a copy of your paystub or an official letter and that's pretty much it. If you're not a paid employee, and their official website has your name as part of the music department? That counts too.

Use this promotion code: "AttendNAMM" . It only costs $25.

Welcome SamCA.

More people would go knowing this. I run across people all the time that dont go because theyre unaware that you can buy tickets. They believe the only way in is a badge.

Fair warning about using Orbitz for Europeans looking for cheap rooms.

I had a German manufacturer pay for our groups rooms and took advice from an employee that Orbitz was the best.

That may be true but we were on Long Beach Blvd. the heart of Compton.

The 1st night there the jumping cars and Helicopters until 300am reminded us we werent @ Disneyland.

True! It used to be a lot harder to do this years ago but that's no longer the case. My friend received his approval for a badge today. His only connection to the music industry is that he's a choir accompanist at a small local church!
