Doerfler
Congrats to Dave and our Nats fans. thanks Geoff. I have to start my Thursday in 6 hours and don't know how I will get any sleep. Don't believe the hype. The Dodger's didn't blow it. They got beat fair and square. Series went to extra innings in game 5. Could have gone either way. Go Nats ! J. Dan
Never would have expected that score for the Cards-Braves game, especially the way the cards were looking at the beginning of the series. I really thought early on that we were going to get knocked out until Yadier Molina kept us in it with a 10th inning win in game 4. But just wow. My son had a cross country meet and it was 4-0 when we got out of the car. Minutes later, the guy with bullhorn and starting pistol yells that the cards are up 10-0. I thought he was just joking to get everybody to cheer. Then I asked somebody the score a minute later and it was something like 13-0 and I realized the other guy wasn't joking. Pretty decisive victory. Quote Dan Acoustic/Electric stringed instruments ranging from 4 to 230 strings, hammered, picked, fingered, slapped, and plucked. Synthaholic
Wow. *Sigh* I have faith that eventually the Dodgers will win a World Series again. Not this year though... Congrats to Dave and our Nats fans. They were overdue for a series victory. I hope we get a great series between the Nationals and Cardinals. My condolences, Synthaholic. Tough loss. I feel sorry for Clayton Kershaw. His postseason reputation just took another hit. Best, Geoff Thanks Geoff - you too. Clearly the best two teams in the National League, and neither will get to represent the NL in the World Series. I"m happy for Dave, but it"s my opinion that the Nationals (and especially the Cardinals) are no match for the Yankees or the Astros. I can"t speak to what the Dodgers did wrong, not seeing them often, but the Braves losses can be squarely placed on manager Brian Snitker. I"ve never been a fan and I think he"s in way over his head. I"ve never seen a pitching staff so mis-managed. I"ve never seen so many idiotic double-switches that take game-changing bats, like Matt Joyce, out of the lineup after only two at-bats. I"ve never seen a manager not pitch their best pitcher (Mike Soroka) in Game 1 of a series. I"ve never seen a manager relegate a 17 game winning stud (Max Fried) to the bullpen, an unfamiliar situation for him. I"ve never seen the sheer, utter disrespect shown to a veteran pitcher (Julio Teheran) - our opening day starter for the past 4 years? - who led the team in starts (33), left off the roster, then when added to the roster due to Chris Martin"s injury, is used for one inning of relief. Yes, Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis, and Josh Donaldson had awful series, but this was manager incompetence. He should be fired. Doerfler
it"s my opinion that the Nationals (and especially the Cardinals) are no match for the Yankees or the Astros. Agreed. The Nationals started off 19-31 in the first 50 games of the season. Where they are now is beyond belief. I don't expect them to beat the Yankees (who I expect to beat the Astro's}, but I didn't expect them to beat the Dodgers. Play Ball.

Geoff Grace
Congrats to davedoerfler and the rest of our Nats fans. It'll be exciting to see the World Series return to Washington D.C. for the first time in 86 years. Condolences to Dave Ferris and the rest of our Cardinals fans. Your team may have been swept, but their storied history is tough to beat. Dave Ferris
Yeah we gave 'em hell huh ? We go from scoring a record 10 runs in an inning, add a field goal to 3 runs in four games ? But in reality- if you're going to lose, might as well make no doubt about it. I think it's worse when you lose close games. This series has been a total joke, not even close ! Actually I'm surprised they got as far as they did. I didn't expect them to get past a strong ATL team. They super lucked out the last week of the season , losing almost every game but the Rockies came through with a pair of miracle comebacks over the Brewers. They were consistently inconsistent. The good - we had a great second half, the best in MLB. Attendance was 3.4 mill, second only to the Dodgers. It was sweet to see them sweep the Cubs in 4 games at home (a first) , knock the Cubs out of contention and ultimately prompt Maddon's departure.. But realistically, they simply aren't at the level of the other 3 teams left standing, in addition to the Dodgers. Speaking of - there were no tears for Dodger management, only the fans. I was stunned to see yet another post season meltdown by a future first ballot Hall of Famer. And then, as my die hard Dodger friend commented- well, that's two years in a row Joe Kelly beat us. Very sad for them. Much worse then what any other team, including the Cardinals, is going through. Well, so much for my wish of a 1964 rematch between the Yankees and the Cardinals. Dave Ferris
Not to bring up bad memories, but I think you guys atoned for this : [video:youtube] Best to Washington. I've never rooted for an AL time in my life in the WS. ok, we scored 4 tonight. I stopped watching though after it was 7-0, it was so pathetic. Dave Ferris
I was watching them tonight and seeing a 4-1 score, I told my wife - wow Astros are going to be up 3-1 ! Not realizing that the game was rained out and they were re-showing last night's game. We have an old small TV in the kitchen and graphic was so small it was like a DMV eye test, even with cataract surgery. Rooting for Houston in the series. Less corporate. But always root for the NL in the WS. Even if the Cardinals get eliminated. Adan
The Nationals will have had such a long break by the time Game 1 of the WS rolls around, it's probably a challenge for them to stay sharp. Even so, I'm guessing this is will be a significant advantage for them. The Nationals are in the postseason in very large part because of their starting rotation, and starting pitchers probably benefit the most from extra rest in October. It would be great to see an Astros/Nationals WS just for the starting pitcher matchups: Verlander v Scherzer, Cole v Strasburg, etc. But we already know the Astros, if they make it, will have to tire out their starters to get their while the Nationals rest their arms. On the other hand, a NY v DC matchup has a certain cultural/geographic intrigue. DC is such an odd place to begin with, so many folks being transient political types, it lacks an identifiable cultural identity. I lived there for 7 years a long time ago (pre-Nationals). Synthaholic
So I guess there are neither Yankees nor Astros fans here? Being from NY and having grown up a Mets fan, I'm not a fan of either. I'm just surprised there's been no talk about that series. I grew up in New Jersey a diehard Yankees fan. From Bobby Murcer to Thurman Munson to Don Mattingly. When I moved south and could no longer see their games or go to The Stadium I watched the only team I could see regularly, the Braves, on TBS. Once I moved to Atlanta they became my #1 team. The heart wants what the heart wants, as they say, and the Yankees always have a place there. So I"m rooting for them to win #28. It would also keep their streak alive of at least 1 American League pennant each decade since the 1920s. I think they won 8 in the 1950s. Lol! Geoff Grace
I started watching baseball near the end of Mickey Mantle's career. I was a fan of him and, by extension, the Yankees. Adan
Astros clearly the better team on paper. But as has been widely noted, this World Series features several of the most dominant starting pitchers in the game. In terms of variables that will favor one team or the other, much depends on the starters' performances, because even the best starting pitcher can stink on any particular day. If Scherzer, Strasbourg, and Corbin are at their best, this could easily swing to the Nats.
