Adan
Sox swept in 5 straight by Yanks. David Price, Rick Porcello, Nathan Eovaldi, and Chris Sale are a combined 21-23. Those four are making $84M this year. Chris Sale a relative bargain in this group at $15M, but he's 5-11 and he'll make $30M next season. With the Red Sox lineup you'd expect any triple A pitcher could equal Sale's record. A little more fun math: David Price has been paid about $2.4M for each win earned as a Red Sock. I caught some of that Chris Sale game. He got lit up, but he was also consistently robbed by a terrible home plate umpire. I"m so ready for robot umpires. harmonizer
The Yankees team pitching ERA is ranked 6th out of 15 teams, but they rank only 11th out of 15 AL teams in "Quality Starts". That is an amazing disparity, and it highlights both how good their bullpen is, and how bad their starting pitching is.

Geoff Grace
Yep. They did a good job yesterday against the Brewers in the Wild Card Game. As for the Dodgers, I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much this time. It seems like the Astros' year again. Doerfler
It seems like the Astros' year again. The Nats swept the Indians the last 3 games of the regular season. They don't suck, 93 win team that couldn't get into a wild card game. Anyway, their TV announcer said that the Nationals were the best team Cleveland faced all year other then the Astro's. So yeah, I hear you.

Joe Muscara
Mattress Mack makes $3.5 million bet at Mississippi casino on Astros to win World Series With his 'Win it All' Astros-related sales promotion winding down and the playoffs about to start, Gallery Furniture owner Jim McIngvale placed a $3.5 million wager at a Mississippi casino Tuesday on the Astros to win the World Series. McIngvale placed the bet at the DraftKings sports book at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in D"Iberville, Miss. At odds of 2.2-to-1, he will clear $7.7 million if the Astros win the World Series. 'I have a happy feeling about this,' McIngvale said. 'I"m a huge Astros fan, and at the end of the day, this is about the Astros and about our customers. I"m happy all the way and hope that the Astros can win 11 more games this year.' McIngvale placed the bet as a hedge against the possibility that he will have to refund $15 million or more in mattress purchases made by customers as part of Gallery Furniture"s 'Win it All' promotion. Customers who make qualified purchases of $3,000 or more will receive refunds if the Astros win the World Series. McIngvale also has placed smaller wagers in Las Vegas and has said he will consider more bets to cover the potential refunds should the Astros win the Series. Customers also have the option of taking 150 percent of their purchase in store credit, and McIngvale said about 40 percent of customers do so. Quote "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! Geoff Grace
I'm grateful for the Dodgers victory in game one tonight and sad about the Rams loss due to a narrow field goal miss in Seattle. It was quite an experience trying to watch both games at once! Fun watching the Dodgers score and the Rams score at the same time. Doerfler
I believe he was referring to the way the Nationals were playing at the end of the season, going on that 9 game win streak. Myself, I think that the only team that is not as well off as the Nats are Tampa Bay. I'll give every other team the edge over them. They had to play perfect baseball last night to beat the Dodgers. They can't play perfect baseball every day.
Geoff Grace
I think there's something to the notion that if a team manages to peak in time for the playoffs, they'll perform better than expected from the evidence provided by the rest of their regular season performance. I'm not looking past the Nationals, and I hope the Dodgers aren't either. Synthaholic
I"m definitely not looking past the Cardinals. I think I"ve mentioned before in this thread that they seem to have the Braves number year after year, different rosters. That team always plays above their talent level in the post season. Synthaholic
I love it that St. Louis is such a baseball town, it can"t/won"t support an NFL team. Very little interest. harmonizer
I am not an Astros fan, but Gerrit Cole looked incredible last night. I had not seen him pitch before, but now I see how he generated those incredible stats, including leading the AL in ERA, strikeouts and Winning Percentage. It's going to be tough for any team to beat the Astros when their second best starter is named Justin Verlander.
Synthaholic
Unfortunately I don"t get to see any of the American League series because I don"t have ESPN. I have the Sling package without it (Blue?) and rarely miss having it because they can"t stop talking about football, no matter the season. And I really can"t stand football. Stupidest game ever. J. Dan
I love it that St. Louis is such a baseball town, it can"t/won"t support an NFL team. Very little interest. I"ve long felt they were the best baseball fans in the country, despite my dislike of the team. St. Louis supported NFL just fine, but the TV market is smaller than LA and Stan Kroenke is a greedy A-Hole. That's ok, screw the NFL. We landed an XFL team, the St. Louis Battlehawks. Oh, and also an MLS team yet to be named. We can support more than just baseball (Stanley Cub, anyone?) Unfortunately our Cardinals aren't looking so good against the Braves. Doerfler
so 3 of 4 division series matches go to 5 games, with Minnesota losing it's 16th straight playoff game (after winning 101 regular season games) getting swept by the Yankees. Don't know if this says more about Minnesota or New York. My bet is NY
MAJUSCULE
Wow, who else thought that score was a typo? Geoff Grace
Wow. *Sigh* I have faith that eventually the Dodgers will win a World Series again. Not this year though... Congrats to Dave and our Nats fans. They were overdue for a series victory. I hope we get a great series between the Nationals and Cardinals. My condolences, Synthaholic. Tough loss. I feel sorry for Clayton Kershaw. His postseason reputation just took another hit.
