All I can say is that I have loved Santana from the 1st time I heard him back in the early 70's on my 8track Santana Abraxas tape right up and through his Smooth tune today. I do not use distortion or sustain pedals, but if I did there are two that I would want to copy. 1. is Satisfaction by the Stones and the other is 2. Anything by Santana! I love his clean violin style sustain vibe. Although he was not a singer, he put together the best and strongest Latin vibe with lyrics for my youthful taste. I don't care about Peter Green and take flack on Black Magic Woman by those anti-Santanites by my preferring the Carlos rendition! Hope I'm not stirring the Pot with my biased comments!
Take care, Larryz

Still gotta say that that vid from Woodstroke is the hottest thing going here so far.

Esp if ya know the alleged backstory abt what Carlos had for lunch that day, the looks that pass between those cats as they, a then-unknown band, set fire to the crowd there are priceless.

:D

Meanwhile, posts here needn't be just CS...

Similar facialities get exchanged here between Mr Steven "Art" Stills

& David Van Courtland Crosby (who betrays some v. hot rhythm gtr chops his own bad self)

as they & the bassist (particularly interactive w/ SAS)

try to get Neil "Percy" Jung to catch fire

& Graham "Bill" Nash seems to be singing another song in the bg....

Them cats musta sometimes burned the house down & up & back down again, before the, well, you know, doncha ?

As this all started with some clip, I have NO idea what the intended gist of it all is.

But y'all seem to be discussing some Woodstock appearances... So....

Personally, my favorite performances in the documentary are:

Santana

Richie Havens

Joe Cocker

Sly and The Family Stone

CS&N

Ten Years After

and of course....

Country Joe's "Gimme an F!"--- :D

And too, as I AM (still) a Hendrix freak, and have seen him a few times live, I can't for the LIFE of me figure out why they never seem to have any film footage of Jimi live that ever sounded as good as when I ever saw him! :idk

Incidentally--- Liked Santana ever since a buddy( who bought the LP due to the cover) brought over their self titled debut LP, which wasn't(it seems) released until AFTER the Woodstock festival. But we ALL( or at least most) of us knew who they were by the time the movie came out. ;)

Whitefang

I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!

Man ya gotta get that vid-viewing prob fixed ! :poke: :idk

That's simply the power of the live experience of a masterfully dynamic performer.

I'd post an example that would equal or surpass yer memories but that won't do much good fer ya, would it ?!

Santana is and always has been an excellent entertainer. I saw them live in Philly at the Arena It was the original Santana band on their first national tour, Chicago, The Youngbloods, and Canned Heat. (I think that was the lineup) Canned Heat came on first, then the Youngbloods then Santana. And believe me they blew the doors off the Arena that night, as great a band as Chicago was they could not follow the Santana set that night. One of the best bands I ever saw live.

By the way Carlos admits he was trippin on acid for the performance at Woodstock as filmed above.
