power cord confusion

cedar

Recommended Posts

Last night, I played an gig that ended after dark. This made it somewhat confusing packing up. This morning, I realized that my power cords for the Yamaha CP4 and SSv3 ended up together. So I cannot tell which cord goes with which gear.

Does this matter? The cords look interchangeable, but I don't want to take any chances.

They are interchangeable. No worries.

Keyboards come, keyboards go. Computers, too. And when they pass on, the cord stays behind - a memento of sorts. I must have 10 of them hanging on a hook in a closet. One of them, I think from a Mac G3, is translucent with bondi blue and yellow wires spiraling neatly inside - a prized standout in my collection.

If they are getting along with each other, I wouldn't worry.

I also have a lot of spares of these. Except when I really need one, then somehow they are all gone....

Years ago - maybe decades - I remember that electric appliances and/or stereo equipment often came with warnings to use only the power cords that came with the unit. Those warnings have left me paranoid.

I have no idea whether such warnings ever were warranted.

Almost never. Even with wall wart DC supplies, as long as the current rating is sufficiently high and you get the polarity right.

One of the annoying current (excuse the pun) practices of laptop computers is that every &U#T$I one of them has a different, slightly incompatible power supply, sometimes varying by only 1 volt, and designed to push you to replace the one you broke with the one they sell at an incredible markup. The cat-and-mouse game they play with the universal power supply sellers has no equal, other than the one that was between Laurens Hammond and Don Leslie.
