jimmymio
One of the features listed for the electro 6D is- External keyboard feature: Freely assign sound engines to be controlled by an external keyboard, while others are played from the Nord Electro 6. How does this differ from the electro 5? Also does the 6D leslie sim not have a close mic 122 setting? 1935 Mason & Hamlin Model A Korg Kronos 2 73 Nord Electro 6D 61 Yam S90ES Rhodes Stage 73 (1972)
3rdAct
The Electro 5 has parts "Upper" and "Lower", and you can assign Piano, Organ or Synth to one of these parts and assign one of the remaining two to the other part. You can also assign the Upper part to receive MIDI from an external keyboard, while Lower is controlled from the Electro. Sounds like the 6 skips the Upper and Lower step. 3rdAct
Actually, after looking at pictures of the 6's interface, it appears that the idea is the same as the 5, except the "lower" part receives MIDI from the external keyboard (although the 6 has a different interface, and thus a different way to get there). However, with the 5, you set external globally, and so it doesn't change from program to program, while it appears that with the 6 you can set it to external selectively for different programs. Karl Sutton
When used in this mode is it possible to have the lower part set to one volume & have the upper part's volume controlled by a pedal? (not just organs but samples?) The balance knob doesn't seem like a great solution for this compared to the Stage layout. Yes, if you set it up as a split or layer, and assign the control pedal to one of the parts, you can bring that part in and out with the pedal. It's actually quite straightforward to set up. AnotherScott
The balance knob doesn't seem like a great solution for this compared to the Stage layout. The Electro 5 has a balance knob; The 6 has separate volume controls for the different sections, like the Stage. Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

The Electro 5 has a balance knob; The 6 has separate volume controls for the different sections, like the Stage. The approach used on the 5 has somewhat of a downside. Sometimes when using a split with, say, piano on the bottom and synth section on top, I want to remove the split and shut off the synth section to have the piano across the whole keyboard. Although this is easy to do, it can result in a noticeable change in the volume level of the piano. I presume this doesnt happen with the 6 ?
