Yeah, nice. Too, I like that HAGSTROM VIKING shown on the page. Good price on that too.

I also long had a "hankerin' " for that D'Angelico acoustic archtop that kid in all those old MEL BAY books is playing. ;)

I have the baritone version of the Hagstrom Viking. Just did a bit of recording with it yesterday. It's a very nice axe for not a lot of moolah. Not a high end guitar, but mighty fine for a budget model.

Today's stupid deal: Yamaha LS16R for $479. Solid rosewood back & sides - must admit I am tempted. Trying to avoid Made In China where I can, but...

Made In China doesn't mean anything regarding quality. The finest guitar I have (of about two dozen,) is a handmade Chinese built Eastman jazz guitar. If you like the axe, the country of origin doesn't matter. (Unless it's a political boycott sort of thing, which I totally understand.)

Y'know Scott, I recall back in that period of American history more commonly referred to as "the day" ;) that Hagstroms weren't necessarily thought of nor priced as "budget" guitars. And I also recall a big push by them (using both Frank Zappa and Noel Redding in promotional posters) in trying to sell people on their 8-string bass. Which didn't have 8 actual "bass" strings, but coursed similarily to a 12-string guitar in which each big, thick bass string had a thin guitar like string along side it.

All put on an SG style solid body. I clearly recall seeing that poster in many music shops, but when I saw Hendrix shortly after( Feb. '68), that Redding was playing a Fender bass. ;)

Yes, Hagstroms were seen as a kind of classy guitar, not as well known in America as Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker or Gretsch, but in more or less the same league as Höfner or Framus. Can't recall a single artist who is associated with Hagstrom, though. Now, of course, they're no longer made in Sweden, & the company is basically whoever bought the rights to the brand name from the original defunct company. They're made in China, naturally.

ps, just remembered a player; didn't Chris Squire play one of those 8 string basses?
