Harp Heaven
When will this program stop troubling me? One of my first problems with it was that it wasn`t recording. Pure and simple. The problem lay in a conflict between a previous version I had installed. So I formatted my computer. I reinstalled the program to find that a problem gone just meant a new problem appearing. The previously mentioned delay problem. When I fixed the delay problem, I was once again stuck with the FIRST problem  I`m pretty sure that the recording block is caused by Sonar, which I up until recently had installed. But the problem is still there after an uninstall, and I don`t want to format my computer again! Which drivers must I remove to make the goddamn program work? halljams
Cubase is a very complex and difficult program to learn. I would search through the manual in the input and recording section( you have read the manual at least twice right?) Make sure the right drivers are in place in the audio control panel, and the tracks are armed correctly, and the proper inputs are "on" in the input panel. Are you using mulitrecord? If you can monitor in real time from your sound card, turn off the input monitoring in cubase to avoid any more confusion. Check all the obvious simple things one by one. Like i said it is complex, and sometimes kind of fucked up too. Earlier versions of cubase 5(up to revision 4-5) are just plain fucked up in alot of ways. Sonar doesn't use ASIO drivers so i doubt it is the culprit. Are you using sonar similtaneously with cubase? Cubase hates that. It needs to be the boss. And even hangs onto drivers and shit sometimes after it is shut down.(or most likley crashed) Check out SUPERVIBE
Harp Heaven
It has not been prone to crashing in my time. I have used it a lot for midi, and it is been working fine except for the audio recording part. No, I`m not using Sonar simultaneously with Cubase. What worries me is that the program recorded just fine after I formatted my machine. But now it is back to the ol` bitching program.
Uh Clem
Is something hogging your resources and slowing down the drive or your CPU -like the indexing service? I didn't see your original post that explains your setup or delay problem. But if it started to go south with no muddling on your part, then something running in the background may be hosing it up. Anderton
There's a 5.1 version of Cubase, maybe downloading and installing it would solve the problem. BTW I use Cubase as well as SONAR, both coexist on the same computer without problems. I bet something is misassigned somewhere; check at the Windows level under device manager (Start > Settings > Control panel > System) to make sure the system recognizes your audio and MIDI drivers. Alndln
I use Sonar and Nuendo on the same PC with absolutely no conflict. Are you using the Asio drivers that come with your card in Cubase and not Cubases Asio? There's also an option in both programs that let you share audio card drivers. gtrmac
You must use the revised version of Cubase. Version 5.0r5 or 5.1r1 are pretty stable, provided you have a stable computer to begin with and you are using compatible hardware. It is not easy to make this stuff work on a PC or I should say it is easy once you have the necessary information. http://www.bluelifeaudio.com/~pcconfig/ is a very good source of info, check it out. Wiggum
Hey Harp, You might also try www.cubase.net. Nothing wrong with SSS, but if you are looking for the Cubase gurus, they all hangout there. Mac is one of them ;) . Cubase 5.1 is very stable, but Cubase only performs well on a limited number of hardware / software combinations. If you have the right set-up, it's a dream. If not, it can be a nightmare. Best of luck, Wiggum [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Wiggum ]
gtrmac
Thanks for the compliment Wiggum. I think Cubase is very cool when you get it set up and running good. I'm hooked on VST instruments, I have all my arrangements running with no hardware synths except my guitar synth now and I'm loving it. Mac Bowne G-Clef Acoustics Ltd. Harp Heaven
Thanks to all of you. I fixed the problem. It was done by selecting Enable Audio in the options menu. Sorry for wasting your time... :(

Anderton
<> And know you know the feelings I had that inspired me to start the "This software sucks eggs" thread...pilot error is a humbling thing! BTW Wizoo has a Quick Start guide on using audio in Cubase, it's distributed in the US through Music Sales. Harp Heaven
It was very humbling, indeed! Its tempting to come here when you have a problem, because there are indeed a lot of knowledgeable people here, and might always get an answer. Bottom line is: "Never start topic before you try every option available"
Robert Smedberg
Ok, my turn now? I have Cubase VST 3.5 and when I start the program it boots up with "def.all" When I have made a song and wish to save it, there's no "save as". Well there is a line saying that, but it's grey and not functioning. This is some kind of a bug for this version, as I've been told. How about that for a software that sucks. Ps. I can press "save file" and the program will not save the def-file without asking "are you sure" first. And then I can choose another name.
