Tedster
Yes I do. If your business was to move big trees with a spade truck, you'd at least want to make sure you got the right tree, right? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

LiveMusic
I seem to recall he is jinxed with people swiping trees. In fact, I even wrote a song about that called "Billy's Tree." Maybe he inspired me subconsicously. > > > [ Live! ] < < <
ani
BTW Ted, If you want any Silver Maple or Pin Oak trees, don't buy them. I pull them damn things like they were weeds out of my gardens. I've got a LOT of good starts that I haven't nabbed outta the ground yet. I also think that I've got a few sprouts of Dogwoods coming up; I've been watching them since last year. Lemme know if you're interested because I don't like them thangs to take too deep of roots prior grounding them. Also, I've got what I call Cedar weeds... some sort of Cedar trees that I mow down before they get beyond 3 inches. My soil is incredibly fetile and great for giving life to unwanted seedlings. Another thing is, if you want any decorative plants such as Peonies, Colombines, Irises, Lilies, Daffodils, Tulips, and other varieties; this will be a year that I will be probagating them. Some are hybrids, but if I don't pull some out, they will start choking themselves out. I've got peonies that I will be mowing down if someone doesn't want them. They are $18 a stem in the nurseries. I have a semi mature sugar maple at the old house. A tree I bought several years ago. I wanted to take it to the new house. So I hired a guy with a spade truck to move the tree. He failed to check with me before he moved it, to make sure he had the right tree. He brought the red maple...the wrong tree, which, while a nice tree, was technically on city property. So...fuck, then he wanted to charge ME for the extra time it took to put the wrong tree back and bring the right one out. FUCK! I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THIS SHIT!!! ani
LOL!!! I "KNEW" it... them sugar maples sure are sweet come autumn. I'm surprised that the city of Excelsior didn't nail him to the wall for the destruction of public property. Do you want any of these silver maples or the pin oaks that take seed here? The silver's turn yellow in the fall and the pin oaks turn a deep burgandy. The Dogwood sprigs also turn a deep burgandy, but as of yet, I've not seen this Dogwood (the original planted tree) flower out like it's supposed to... it's a Chinese Dogwood that is supposed to be covered with white blossoms in the springtime; it's the 3rd year in the ground since I planted it. Some of the maple seedlings that have taken root are a deep burgandy as well, not characteristic of my silver maple sprigs; but we do have several older trees around the neighborhood ranging from Red Maples, Sugar Maples, Gum Drops and others that like to catch a breeze and end up in my yard. Some are between 2 to 4 feet high right now. I'm getting geared to treat for weeds, so I'll be looking to get the trees out of the gardens within the next 2 to 4 weeks. They would be easy to move and transplant. My step mom always takes a few of them, as they have 5+ acres, but I have tons of little intruders that like to dig their roots in. Tedster
Ani...I have quite a few pin oaks on my new property...probably 5 or 6, that are about in that semi-mature stage like my sugar maple. I also have a lot of old growth trees that are similar to silver maples, so I really don't need any more of those. On top of that...get this...I have 75 seedlings on the way from the Missouri Dept. of Conservation...25 dogwoods, 25 redbuds, and 25 black gums (turn bright red in fall). You want any of those? I'll have more than I need. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
ani
I might take one or two of those Redbuds; thay sho is purdy about this time a'year. I had one on the property line here that my newer neighbor killed off while trying to keep a meth lab going... I didn't know what he had staged there in the thicket area or I would have sabatoged it myself. Came home to a s.w.a.t. team setting in my neighbors yard last fall. Ironically, they didn't lock him up... xplain that one to me??? What breed are the Dogwoods, do they flower white or pink? How big are these guys anyway? So are you interested in any of the flowering ground plants?
Tedster
I believe these are the white flowering ones. Sure, I could probably use some of the plants as well. What sort? (Sigh)...I think I'll trade my geetars in for a shovel, just spend my time gardening away... Won't bother anyone that way. ani
I can give you starts on any of the following, and some in abundance.... Peonies, Colombines, Irises, Lilies (both hybrid asiac and regular), Daffodils, Tulips, Purple Cone Flowers, Varigated Hostas, Rose of Sharon shrubs.... I've got em all. Take all the damn peonies.... I can't even kill them som-bishes... I dig em up and replant them elsewhere and they come right back where I moved em from ... Just like I've got another one of those rose bushes with roots from HELL in a garden that it's intrusive in... I had one of those at my other house that I could NOT kill... it was in an area that it didn't belong. I love roses, but they have their place, AND IT'S "NOT" in my main showcase garden... my entrance garden is specifically for hand selected hybrids (mostly tulips, daffodils, and lillies of various types). I like roses in my back yard to where the fragrance will be aromatic while having an outing in the backyard.... Right now is planting season at it's best for moving plants around... I wouldn't mind digging some up and dropping them off. I'll have to locate some pots though... Lemme know
techristian
It could get worse Tedster. The city could come after you if they know that you hired the guy that pulled out the city tree. BTW I have all of the SUGAR maples that I want here. I have 2 big trees, but the saplings come up all over the place like weeds. If I would let them go they would tear up my foundation and driveway. My dad planted these when I was 8 years old and they are over 40 years old now. Besides, the guy put the tree back. And the city hates trees anyway. Fuck 'em, like I say, let 'em try to come after me. They screwed up my driveway, and I'll sue 'em back. whitefang
Maybe Ted should check out the thread about profanity on the "Forum News" page? Anyway, you didn't say whether or not you paid the guy, or finally got the right tree after all. Ani, my next door neighbor has a silver maple, and I hear you concerning the pulling out of literally dozens of them suckers a year. Almost all of it's "whirlybirds" land over at my place and get into nooks and crannies that makes it a major chore to clean them out. But here in the Metro Detroit area, the biggest problem is Chinese Elms. Full grown, they are an attractive tree. But they seem to sprout wildly, and usually start springing up right against buildings, fences, porches...they are the most predominant tree in the city of Detroit(the "City of Trees")and it's no trick to spot them sprouting up against all the abandoned buildings in town. If you don't get them out quick, you'll have a hell of a time pulling them up. Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left! dementia13
I'd take any and all of those decoratives, if you were able to ship some and there's a way I could compensate you for the cost and effort. I also wouldn't mind a couple of those black gums. I'm an hour east of Memphis, which isn't too horribly far to mail something. I've got some of that same trouble with my soil- everything grows in it. It doesn't help that I'm next to some woods which is almost completely made up of weed trees: black locust, box elder, chinese elm. The locusts are not only nuisances, they fall over so easily as to be destructive. One of my big upcoming projects is to go nuts with the chainsaw and clear some room for some good trees.
