linwood
I was producing a spot for an Ad Agency in CA last week. When I did the creative call, the Ad exec. said he wanted something along the lines of Frank Sinatra. He said to keep the band size down to a trio or quartet. He really didn't want a big band sound. He also said something with the feel/tempo of Come Fly with Me. I write/produce the demo and send it to him and he came back with, : "Well, maybe not so much like Sinatra, but more like a retro Harry Connick." Philip OKeefe
That's EXACTLY why I steer clear from most ad agency work. Many / most of those people don't have a clue as to what they want... but they have no problem getting in there and telling you how to run your gear, or they'll constantly change their minds and second guess everything - including their own decisions. And of course, they don't want to pay you for their endless revisions. In my experience, you're more likely to hear "I don't know what I want, but I'll know it when I hear it" from those people than anywhere else. Of course, there are the occasional musical marketing weasels, like our own Jeff Klopmeyer. Proof that there's an exception to every rule.
