Pretty sure all the cool keyboard guys live in Australia, like Cowboy, who is just naturally way cooler then megatheopolis.

Jim, let me assure you that in a coolness battle with ANYONE ON THE PLANET, I'd start as the bookies' outsider.

More importantly, good to hear from you! It's been too long!

Theo - normally I'd apologise for taking this thread off topic, but as I've already demonstrated, my grasp of what the topic was in the first place is tenuous at best.

Like when Hitler crosses a border, you cannot remain a keyboardist and cool. Or: you're being overly imitated to the point of feeling betrayed and the person doing so is clearly inferior, weaker, obvisouly a traitor, and no other way thus far has worked to tone him (or her) down than to kick his ass.
I'm trying to decide if this is some kind of Hunter Thompson'ish type of beat poetry genius, or if we need to alert the authorities and have Theo watched.

Some music I've recorded and played over the years with a few different bands

I still can't decide waygetter is either a teenage nerdy concept, or Old Shatterhand moonshining as a trapper..

I said "kick-ass" only and merely referred to the obvious events in WW II as an example of an extreme event requiring action. Oh and trying to close all discussion paths by claiming exact consequences of word meanings is a side meaning of the difficult word I used, such as a hermeneuticist can be considereinna d in the context of the greek deity Hermes. Not like "Dialog with God" or "The Vienna circle", just referring to the creepy meaning of trying a hermetically closed philosophy having side effects of leading to the underworld, so to speak (nobody here believes the greek pantheon is about actual religion I suppose).

I don't know, some might find being a grand name on Berkele-y/-ee

campus supercool, others may chose to derive ultimate coolness in participating in making a new musical workstation successful, I myself can find a lot of subjects cool, or, alternatively, Hot !!

Theo, as usual I have no blinking idea what you're talking about. I really need to learn to read English someday. However, in an attempt to respond meaningfully and provide some context for said response, here's my (probably incorrect) interpretation:

Para 1. The question is posed - what is a cool keyboardist?

Para 2. The author postulates that HE is a cool keyboardist. Evidence to support this consists of a) he built his own synth back in the '80's, b) he studied Electrical Engineering and c) he read technology magazines.

Para 3. The author shares his disdain for things that are easy to use and understand.

Para 4. The author defines coolness as leading a band without speaking to anyone. He acknowledges that others might find this particular brand of coolness a bit too cool for their taste.

Para 5. Yeah, dunno. Something about Madonna and Firefox. As I know the author is a fan of the stylings of Clint Eastwood I can only think he wishes that more fans of 80's pop music turned their attention to films featuring stolen Russian aircraft as an alternative.

My response: Theo, I believe "cool" is in the eye of the beholder and depends very much on context.

People with an IQ of 250 or more may think that the following is cool:

- building synthesisers

- playing keyboards

- reading technology magazines

- watching movies about jet fighters that respond to brain waves

- hermeneutics

- comic strips featuring the hijinks of Gallic scalliwags

People in my social circle think the following is cool:

- playing guitar

- singing

- opening beer bottles with either your belly button or your eye socket.

- Madonna

- walking upright

- opening batsmen making 100 on day one of a test series

- burping the alphabet

The above said, my unsolicited opinion is that the "cool keyboardist" must be one of either:

- someone who can type at 90+ wpm, or

- Cory Henry

Hahahaha, I found this transcription very helpful. I knew I needed help in understanding some of Theo's posts, just didn't realize what was needed was an Aussie that could perform an English to English translation. Kind of like when I need to turn on subtitles for a Scottish or Irish movie with heavy accents.

If you could continue to provide this service it would be very helpful :)

I myself can find a lot of subjects cool, or, alternatively, Hot !!

Then, the question becomes where does a cool girlfriend or wife fit into that differential equation.:cool:

I wasn't painting a particular picture outside of the clear, mainly US, English meaning, all the rest and the conjecture might be fun, but entirely not my point.

I am quoting this because, as a former Lit Major, I have always had a weakness for beat poetry.
