OT: Stupid things I have done ( but did not seem then)

Riding motorcycles without a helmet. Back then, it was legal in CA to ride without a helmet, seems crazy now.

But it's my business if I want to go without protection. Is the helmet law, applied in all 50 states?

Well, I guess it's not really just your business. I remember back when the helmet laws were going into effect, most of the biker community was against it, thought it impinged on their freedom. I recall feeling like that too, I liked the freedom of the wind blowing through my hair, free as a bird, riding my iron horse and all that.

But, I recall one of the arguments was that a lot of bikers were getting seriously injured and were filling up the emergency rooms with horrible head traumas.. and as a result, were a huge burden to taxpayers who were footing a lot of the bills, and more importantly were clogging up the ERs, delaying responses to other more 'legitimate' traumas. I don't know if that was all true, but it seems to make sense now, and I would feel pretty stupid riding around without a helmet these days.

Some music I've recorded and played over the years with a few different bands

Over 21 you do not have to wear a helmet in PA. Iowa, Illinois, and New Hampshire have no helmet laws. I see a lot of riders not wearing helmets when I am in PA.

The issue to many is not riding with or without a helmet but a government agency passing a law punishable by fine or jail for not wearing something on your body. (not saying I agree or disagree). Some say the cost of freedom costs lives. (like freedom to drive a car). So the question is: is it better to lose freedoms to live safer or have freedoms and take mathematical risks? The safest a person can be would be to, by law, lock him/her in their house and deliver food and goods, imo.

[font:Comic Sans MS]Naked snow angel.

In my defense, I was high af.

That's really funny. :)

[font:Comic Sans MS]Craziest thing about that night was finding out (some time later, after I'd warmed up and gotten dressed) that at least 6 other people at that party got nekkid and did it, too.

I once owned an AMC Gremlin (in Orange, no less).

I once owned a Chevy Corvair.

I once owned a Yamaha CP-30.

I once owned a Moog Sonic Six.

I got rid of all 3 of the B3/Leslie rigs I owned over the years.

I sold my Yamaha CS-60 in 1995 for $375.

I once built a cabinet with a 15",12",and a10" speaker - no regard or knowledge of ohms/serial/parallel/crossovers/power rating......Used an Acoustic guitar head to amplify my Sonic Six. Sounded great for a couple hours, then the whole thing went up in smoke - literally. I called my cabinet "Kronos" after the giant robot movie. My only excuse is - 19 years old.

Professional musician = great source of poverty.

It would be funny to tell about instruments purchases, or marriages - but frankly, I don't think that any of my choices on those matter have been wrong enough to be called stupid... :D

Thinking about it, perhaps the only thing the deserves some regret is something I did NOT do.

I have had some window opening to move to the USA - let's say two or three times in my thirties. Every time, I thought hard about it, then let it pass. I was (still) making a decent living at the time, and having some fun - so I thought, "why should I?". Plus, the first time it happened I was married, and the last time, my father's disease had been just discovered, so I thought that moving to another continent just wasn't the right choice at that moment.

Of course, I'm aware that the decline of musical work has hit the USA as well as Europe. But I couldn't predict the catastrophic series of wrong turns that my particular situation would have taken in the following years. So there's a chance that moving to America could have been a good choice.

Anyway, nobody has a crystal ball, and regrets are only good as reminders. ;)

...oh, and I *did* risk my life a few times... but never because of my own decisions.... :D

That motorcycle thing ( riding between lanes in L.A. ) is the craziest thing I have ever seen. I saw it on the 5 freeway when I drove down to NAMM a couple years ago.

I had a two pedestrians run out in front of me as I was going through a green light on 10/5/ 2015. Scariest thing That has ever happened. I had NO time to stop. I hit the woman badly. ( who was being chased by her boyfriend in an argument)

In an incredible streak of luck, a policeman just " happened" to be right behind me as this took place.

Even though it was determined that I was not at fault - because of the policeman's testimony- my insurance company - Progressive- decided to declare me 10 percent at fault just because they were pedestrians, and double my insurance rates for the next 3 years.

Does this count?

Bought a super hopped up, formerly owned by a drug dealer, 280Z ( I never met the dealer ) with

Recaro seats, special radiator, raced 69 Camaro V8 - camshaft , giant Holley, dual exhaust, $3000 worth of modular wheels and rubber.. A chevy automatic trans, Chevy tall rear end.

The car was fast at any speed, but after 70mph... like Roadrunner.

The Stupid part is, though back in the mid 80;s, I still miss it!

This is a great argument for getting a dash cam. My car was totaled a few weeks back, and I plan on installing one on my replacement vehicle when it arrives. A lot of crazy shit happens out there....

This is why I hate insurance companies. They're immoral.
These are only my opinions, not supported by any actual knowledge, experience, or expertise.

I have a similar story with a twist. I had a '69 Z28, like a race car, super cool and badass. The stupid thing was getting rid of it.
