Day Tripper Help

Being primarily a keyboardist, I am trying to teach myself the guitar. I am trying to learn Day Tripper, which I am sure you can play in your sleep. When playing the main riff, I am getting unwanted open string sounds. Any suggestions, besides lots of practice, that you would recommend to play the riff cleanly?

Well, been years since I played it, but "practice makes perfect", so.........

 

Maybe try playing it slowly 'til you too, can do it in your sleep and then pick up the speed.

The 1st thing I'd suggest is laying the palmbutt of yer picking hand lightly across the strings near the bridge. That'll mute most extraneous notes.

Another thing is maybe being careful abt how you pick. I'm guessing yer exuberantly hitting adjacent strings

 

Play it slowly.

What extra strings are you getting in relation to the strtings you intend to hit ?

+1 on playing it slowly until you can pick up speed...and don't worry about those extra strings sounding out for now. You'll know that your are get better, when they will start to disappear.
