Damn, sorry to be the one to report this, but Malcolm Young, of AC/DC has left us. Let's raise a little hell today, in his memory. Rest in peace, brother, and many thanks.

Very sad. Dementia hits home with me because my Mom has been suffering from it for a few years now. Malcolm was one of the few influential rhythm guitarists in my life, especially in the early-mid 80's. I still remember purchasing my first ever 8-track... "Back In Black." He will be missed, but his memorable riffs will live on.

Hearing ACDC cranked to high heaven, on a great sound system, was an experience that has never left me. Those guys rocked it like no other band out there. RIP Malcolm, you did it right.

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-

And less than a month than older brother and early AC/DC producer George, who was also a former member of '60's pop group The Easybeats( "Friday On My Mind")

That family is sure having it rough.

It was nice to see that the local Los Angeles CBS affiliate paid tribute to Malcolm on the evening news last night, then appalled when they showed footage of Angus soloing, with Malcolm nowhere in the frame.

@Scott - In that same category, I saw a press release calling him the Bassist for AC/DC! WTF doesn't begin to cover it . . .

Word has it, St. Peter has already given him demerits for playing Highway to Hell during warmups for Celestial Choir.

AC/DC never strayed far from their basic formula, but even so, excellent rhythm guitar work on his part kept it fresh.

I dunno, St Pete must've known that they were at least in part tongue in cheek w/HWay To Hell.

While the ultimate value of any music is contained within itself, I think there's also a value to be found in its influence outside itself.

AC/DC were one of the metal bands that had a much wider reach than most, in no small degree from their better record production but also their humor.

While some might've looked askance at the example of a tribute I posted above it's worth noting that Luna Lee found them to be one of her selections to both seek entry to a wider audience & demonstrate her musical interpretive skills.

Does she not do the tune justice & find real nuance therein ?

Then there's this riproarin' tribute from abt a yr back.

Give it a moment to reveal its true self...

This example is a but less nuanced but serves to demonstrate the, uh, universal appeal of the band's music as well as the quality of their writing.

Ultimately we might consider this, from an old TV show = Still Standing, the entire premise of which was modern parents tryna keep their kids on track while retaining their allegiance to the rock culture they once enjoyed---& still do.

You may not have time to chk the entire final episode for context but dial up the 19:00 min mark & see why it's cited here.

All things considered, isn't that remarkable ?!
