While Felix Papalardi was the producer and shaped the sound of the band we heard on records, the band itself was shaped by all members and West certainly did his part. His playing could be as elegant as needed or be as edgy as required. I think it was his contribution that made Mountain into a prototype of the future Heavy Metal genre.
