Geoff Grace
Waves is selling their Element 2 virtual synth today for $29. My guess is that it'll be back to the normal price of $119 tomorrow. Here's the Keyboard review of version one: Waves Element Soft Synth Reviewed And here are some videos about version two: [video:youtube] [video:youtube] I don't (yet) own this synth, but I'm guessing it's at least worth today's asking price. If anyone here owns Element, please let us know what you think of it below. johnchop
There's a demo, so folks can check it out. I got it during the 25th anniversary sale a couple of weeks ago at that price. Limited mod matrix and effects, but sounds quite huge. Definitely more CPU intensive than other VAs I'm using but brings its own thing. I make software noises. Dnsmo
Thanks, Geoff. Based on the demos/reviews, I think this is too good to pass up at this price. It will mark my entry into the VA synth world, but seems as good a starting point as any. Dennis
johnchop
It will mark my entry into the VA synth world, but seems as good a starting point as any. Yes, it's not overloaded with options and has a good basic sound. BTW, you can get impressive results from freebies like TAL Noisemaker: https://tal-software.com/products/tal-noisemaker and Synth1 (Nord Lead clone): http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/ And if you're using a Mac, the Mainstage 3 synths are excellent for the low price they're asking (although I'd recommend a more recent Mac, as some of the newer ones hammer your CPU). I make software noises.
Dnsmo
Thanks for the recommendations. I have a late-2014 iMac with quad-core i5. I'll definitely investigate the Mainstage 3 synths. Dennis
