Hey B. Sabbath

Recommended Posts

Hi there, i noticed that someone had mentioned that there's not many metal guys here which is very true. But i think i'm one of the few (doing mostly electronica/pop/hip hop these days) but i've got about 12 years of heavy stuff behind me so if it's cool with you i'll give you some of my own opinions as i go through your tunes... i've only scanned through them right now, EXCEPT for Splitting Headache.....you're soooo on to something there. What a wicked tune. I've listened to it about 12 times already. It's a great song, very well written, the vocals sound fantastic....what are you using there? It's cool because it moves alot...pushes the whole time except for the break which gives it a nice bit of breath. I really like it. As far as what i would consider to be weaknesses, i would have really liked to hear a litte more weight on the kick in the verses and chorus. My immediate thought would be to try using a kick and snare that had a bit more ring on them, and then doing a bit of creative compression ..that way when that break happens at 1:50 you could squeeze a little more tone out of the drums and give them a little more life, and then when the heavy parts kick in, compress a little harder and it'll slam back into it....might be a little more dynamic that way. But the guitars sound great (what'd you use there?)....and the bass is very weighty...and i'm a huge fan of keyboards, so kudos there... Nice work...i'll keep listening. Cheers, Shiver

Shiver, Thanks for taking the time. That's a great response. It's exactly the type of detailed response I hoped i would get here. Suprisingly, I thought I would get ripped to pieces here because I'm not a pro or anything, and my equipment is nothing compared to what i read other people have. In the other thread, someone asked about the whammy dives, and i thought that I should respond on the "is your music any good thread," But I guess this one's cool because I didn't start it, Thanks. On that tune, "Splitting Headache", I sang through an sm57, into a "BLUE TUBE", into a "BLUE MAX COMPRESSOR", into a "BBE Sonic Maxixmzer", into my "POD PRO." I really just kept playing around until it sounded halfway decent. For the guitar I used, a FENDER (mexican) strat, into a BOSS PS-5 Pitch shifter pedal, into a SansAmp GT2, which I used for distortion and put it through the "PODPRO" for its emulation, then a BBE SONIC MAXIMIZER. The Sansamp distortion is better IMOP, but its a bit harsh, so I send it through the POD, and don't use PODS distortion, just its cabinet emulation. I've upgraded my recorder since then. That song was recorded with a SONY minidisk 4 track. I have a TASCAM 788 now thats 24 bit, and sounds much better. Your right about the drums, I mixed that before I had monitors. Now I have 20/20's. I can't remix that one because i sold the recorder, but i'll just try to make the next one better.I played all instruments, and did all the singing on that one, so theres no one else to blame for the problems with this. Thanks for taking the time, I'll look for your tunes in the music thread. www.mp3.com/samicide [ 12-27-2001: Message edited by: B. SABBATH ]

B Sab Good to have you bro. These are the top forums. No need to travel elsewhere. You came in and used good judgement and we totally appreciate that. Sometimes guys come in guns a blazin' and it doesn't always work out. Hang loose, ask lots of q's and join in with our sometimes mindless bantering. I'll give your stuff a listen after dinner. Keep on truckin Cereal

hey Cereal, thanks for trying. i thought that www.mp3.com was the standard, but I think if you have never been there, they want you to register the FIRST time. Other people I've spoken to said they just gave them a fake e-mail address and name and they had no problems. thanks. www.mp3.com/samicide
