d halfnote
Judy Collins = 78 today. Skilled finger-picker, pianist & composer (& novelist) but more exp one of the most expressive vocalists & interpreters of Western folk music. Like Bonnie Raitt, she's the daughter of a professional musician&, for better or worse there's we;d likely not know Sarah McLaughlin if not for JC. An Appropriate Song For The Day & a great tribute story [video:youtube] Tireless promoter of new talent version 1 [video:youtube] version 2 [video:youtube] version 3 / not as good but still very interesting for what the band does [video:youtube] ----------------------- Rita Coolidge = 72 today Passable gtr strummer, better pianist & choral arranger but if ya don't know something of her as a singer, you never listened to pop radio between 1969~1979. Chk these tidbits... whitefang
Not only McLACHLAN, but many also might not discovered Joni Mitchell if not for JC's commercial success with "Both Sides Now". Many of us old "folkies" were well aware of the BOTH of them, but many WEREN'T. RITA COOLIDGE too. Sang background for just about everybody until finally doing her own stuff in around '70 or so. More people got to know her through her professional association and marriage with Kris Kristofferson. I wish them and anyone ELSE born on "May Day" the happiest of birthdays. Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
d halfnote
Collims helped promote Mitchell. She provided McLachlan w/ a template for growth. Sarah McLachlan prolly wouldn't exist as an artist without Collins. [my mistake on spelling in OP] d=halfnote
whitefang
As an old "folkie" I've long had an affection for Judy. Many of her contemporaries do too. Remember after all.... It was SHE who CS&N was serenading in "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes". Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
