John Hiatt steps from behind Lyle Lovett / unrehearsed solo

I always liked this song's orig version.

It captures a certain "American" spirit that seems to ride through this nations history in an almost mythic way.

However here we have a version from some radio outlet that features Hiatt unfurling a great, unrehearsed but dramatic & thematic gtr solo.

Dig.

The magic starts when Lovett starts singing but the gtr part rolls in abt 3:10

One of my best friends from high school was in John Hiatt's band for a few years. And even though most of his other projects were originals (that he wrote himself), he said Hiatt was very gracious in sharing the spotlight with others, and a joy to work with. Lots of passion.

It's nice to hear Lyle again. It's been years since he was in heavy rotation for me. We used to do a lot of his songs in the country band I was in in the late '80's.

Good stuff. Thanks.
