d halfnote
I always liked this song's orig version. It captures a certain "American" spirit that seems to ride through this nations history in an almost mythic way. However here we have a version from some radio outlet that features Hiatt unfurling a great, unrehearsed but dramatic & thematic gtr solo. Dig. The magic starts when Lovett starts singing but the gtr part rolls in abt 3:10 [video:youtube] d=halfnote

Baldwin Funster
The solo was good but too short for him to really take it anywhere. Would have been better on slide. FunMachine.
Mark Schmieder
One of my best friends from high school was in John Hiatt's band for a few years. And even though most of his other projects were originals (that he wrote himself), he said Hiatt was very gracious in sharing the spotlight with others, and a joy to work with. Lots of passion. Danzilla
It's a good and appropriate solo; but I wouldn't call it "great". Lots of respect for these two; it is what it is. Larryz
+1 Not a great solo, but not a bad one either... Take care, Larryz
d halfnote
Hmmm. Maybe not the greatest solo, but for off the top of his head I thought it was dang unified rather than a collection of licks...but each is their own. d=halfnote
KHAN
It's nice to hear Lyle again. It's been years since he was in heavy rotation for me. We used to do a lot of his songs in the country band I was in in the late '80's. Good stuff. Thanks. So Many Drummers. So Little Time...
