Anyone Else Doing This?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I assume that there are other teachers of sorts hanging around here. Anyone else doing online lessons? I've been doing a series of throat-singing lessons, and getting a great response... nice way to make a few bucks ($25/lesson) and reach more people. Of course, the fact that I have no competition at all helps, but if yer a teacher, and the first to try this, you won't either!

I prepare lessons that are a combo of text and QT videos, and people dig 'em. I have lots o' cheap server space, so that's no problem.

After getting some requests, I'm about to start testing real-time video lessons. Should be interesting.

Hey Wewus,

Throat-singing, or Khoomei, is a central-Asian vocal art in which a singer uses special techniques to sing 2 or more notes simultaneously. Some low (I can sing down below 40 hz) chordal stuff, others like a flute over a drone. See my website, http://khoomei.com for more than you ever wanted to know.

It's very cool stuff!

Steve,

Sounds like you've got a real nice thing going. From what I've heard of it, "throat-singing" is very difficult, and not well known. Singing 2 notes at a time may seem shocking to those who've never seen/heard it.

Lots of potential there. Now, I'm gonna visit your site.

A good place to start is one of my video pages: http://khoomei.com/vids.htm Lots of singers there, from kids to women to pros. Even a few of yours truly.

Here's a good mp3 track from Kaigal-ool Khovalyg, my main man: http://khoomei.com/mp3s/kombu.mp3

And an mp3 of my band Big Sky, with me throat-singing, also electric guitar and producer: http://khoomei.com/mp3s/Siberia.mp3 The low stuff at the start and end, and the real high, flute-like stuff in the middle are kargyraa and sygyt, 2 different styles.

BTW, it feels as cool as it sounds.

Have fun,
