Did anyone see the show? I check back and forth a few times. I could only stand about 30 seconds at best. My gosh the music is nothing but computers at best. I don't really like pop music as i am in my 50's. I know all music shows are like this now. Am i the only the only that feels like this? Just terrible

As for awards shows, I was down to the CMA's, watching because the bands were actually playing, and sounded good. Then they went off on some tangent, like country was not good enough and they needed to feature artists from other genres. Now I don't watch any awards shows.

I saw all I needed to see on the 6 o'clock news when the "entertainment guru" interviewed Miley Cyrus' little sister about the origins of her scary talent - which as far as I could tell consists of looking awkward in a dress.

Watched much of it (my wife enjoys seeing the performances).

I'm fine with pop music and appreciate some of it.

Some of the performances were pornographic and totally inappropriate.

Some of the performers lacked any semblance of talent. I don't get it.

I caught only Bruno Mars which I enjoyed. Vocal harmonies were tight and the dancing was great!

I saw Spectacle of Haight play the HiWatt club in Nashville a few years ago before they released their first record. To this day it remains the best club show I've ever seen.

We've lost too many great ones this year.

2016 can go to hell.

I've seen Twenty One Pilots in concert, they were the headliner, the crowd absolutely loved them, they knew every word to every song, and sang along so loudly I could barely hear the duo. All that is like every good show I've atttended. What I didn't understand was how unlike a concert it was, everything but the vox and drums and occasional fills was backing tracks, it was not "live", no spontaneity. very strange, indeed. Still, the two did make a connection with the audience, best of luck to them.

Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song.

I couldn't tell if it was a show about music or politics. Either way it sucked. I come here to get away from the political crap.

Music has been used for political statements for a long time.

Music can certainly be, by why are award shows? Aren't they about the awards?

40 years ago, James Taylor was touring with a reel-to-reel on stage that would turn on and off whenever his prerecorded backing vocals came on. It had its own spotlight and everything. The personnel on that tour was: James Taylor plus tracks.

No different--except we're old and cranky now.

Now out! "Mind the Gap," a 24-song album of new material.

I saw JT do this. Difference was, it was one or two tunes in a show with a live band (Billy Payne on keys for example). It was effective because the spotlight on the tape machine when the vocals come in was funny, and he was making a point to show that it was fake.

But 21 Pilots' "thing" is that it is just two guys plus the tracks they make. That's the performance people are expecting to see. In fact, while I thought their SNL set was pretty smoking, the weakest part for me was the goofy strings; there are definitely better groups out there at incorporating live strings in the pop context. (Belle and Sebastian for example.)

I guess that's where the disconnect is, I don't expect concerts to be just like the studio recording, I do hope for something that goes beyond the studio experience, a little coloring outside the lines. I get it, I'm not the T0P audience, but I've seen a lot of newer bands by taking my kids to shows, and almost all of them seem to suffer from the "sticking to the script" concert experience, I also liken it to a car never getting out of third gear, the dynamics reach a certain level early, and never go beyond that, never reach cruising speed. I also notice a serious lack of soloing by the members of these bands in a live setting. I've noticed that a lot of newer music sounds less like music for live performance, and more like music that is a soundtrack to a film, maybe that's part of it.

The SNL performance is not bad, but I see a lot of emoting, and movement, but I don't "hear" any reason for it.

I don't mean to sound like I'm slagging this band, I've listened to them often on car trips, they do have some talent, and I prefer them to other bands my kids like, but so much of their stuff seems like rough drafts or outlines, not fleshed out. The strings are a nice touch.

I'm not familiar with their work. I know, I know. Dinosaur.

Age isn't necessarily the issue... if I would have heard this stuff 30 years ago, I doubt I would have been excited about it then either. :idk

I think they are underestimating their demographic. Just because a person is young, it does not mean they suffer from moral decay and enjoy the fine line between broadcast restrictions and pornography. While the overall audience dropped 25 percent from last year, their target demo dropped 31 percent. It may be time to re-evaluate what young people want to see. I'm thinking Miley Cyrus and her antics no longer qualify.
