David Loving
Is there a way to send USB-B (the smaller square USB port, not the bladed end) to midi in to control an old timey module? "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."
timwat
What are the actual hardware units in question? I suspect what normally works is USB-B to a laptop's USB-A, laptop converts to DIN MIDI to module. And you want to get rid of the (theoretical) man-in-the-middle. But you still need a MIDI Host. I think the old Kenton USB MIDI Host box was designed for just such a purpose. And the newer iConnectivity mio2 will do the same thing for you too. I don't know of another way to do what you're seeking...maybe someone else here knows a better (less expensive) solution. ..
AnotherScott
And the newer iConnectivity mio2 will do the same thing for you too. Are you sure about that? Without attaching to a computer or i-device? I know the original iConnectMIDI did, and I think the current iConnectMIDI4+ does. I didn't think any of the others did. If you already own an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, you have some more options. (Or if you want to integrate your computer.) Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
timwat
Scott: I don't own one, but the product description on the product page specifically says: "It can also work stand-alone. Filter, merge, remap MIDI with computers or without." ..
