USB to Midi

What are the actual hardware units in question?

I suspect what normally works is USB-B to a laptop's USB-A, laptop converts to DIN MIDI to module. And you want to get rid of the (theoretical) man-in-the-middle. But you still need a MIDI Host. I think the old Kenton USB MIDI Host box was designed for just such a purpose.

And the newer iConnectivity mio2 will do the same thing for you too.

I don't know of another way to do what you're seeking...maybe someone else here knows a better (less expensive) solution.

Are you sure about that? Without attaching to a computer or i-device? I know the original iConnectMIDI did, and I think the current iConnectMIDI4+ does. I didn't think any of the others did. If you already own an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, you have some more options. (Or if you want to integrate your computer.)

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
