zephonic
These are true masters at work. Virtuosity is a given, but the way they play together, listen to and feed off one another elevates the concert to another level. Rubalcaba is the most technically astute pianist I know of, but it's his capacity for continuous invention and impeccable sense of dynamics that really make him one of the greatest to me. George88
Thanks for this. I agree with your assessment: Rubalcaba is a beast, and this band is great. At times, it sounds like there must be at least one more percussionist! In the early 90s I got his live album with DeJohnette and Patitucci, it's something else. His live duet record with Charlie Haden is beautiful too.
zephonic
Yeah, his straightahead stuff is every bit as good. I loved the "Inner Voyage" album, with the slowest-ever version of "Here's That Rainy Day". For me he is right up there with Herbie Hancock, but he lacks a cross-over smash like "Headhunters".
