Doerfler
Anyway, most excellent show. 90 minutes with the Air Force band. Drums, upright bass, acoustic guitar, 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, and 4 trumpets. Female vocalist for 2 songs (1 with Cyrus Chestnut). Of course "Double C" on the Steinway Grand. 2 Cyrus Chestnut songs, 2 Bill Evans songs, 1 McCoy Tyner song, one traditional song (Amazing Grace), and close with two John Coltrane songs. Giant Steps to close the set and Body and Soul as the encore, just piano trio. Amazing encore, the entire horn section, all 13 of them, just sat and watched with big smiles on their faces. Was nice to close on such an intimate note after all night was a big band. Best free concert I ever saw.

Markyboard
Sounds like an excellent show Dave- how is that concert hall?
Doerfler
Hall is very nice, Mark, I mean Buffy. Set up exactly like DAR Constitution Hall, about 2/3 of the size and less ornate of course.
Markyboard
Thread title still appropriate this year, compliments of Dave Doerfler . Awesome show Saturday night at Blues Alley in DC. We sat 3 feet behind and just to the right of the man - like listening in our living room. Talk about groove - these guys killed it. Chestnut's technique is amazing and always tastefully serving the music. Wish they played longer.
