Mojo and external MIDI

Hi,

after reading several positive comments of it I just recently obtained the Korg Module to my Ipad. My idea is to use it with my Crumar Mojo as a simple "roots music" rig using the Module mostly for Rhodes sound. After some trial and error I already managed to make the combination work (make sound) and it indeed sounds good. But it seems that I cannot make the Mojo sustain pedal to work with the Module. With Internal (Mojo) epiano sounds it works ok. And honestly, I'd like to see some general writen advice how the MIDI setings of Mojo are supposed to work with external devices. I know they're kept very limitd by purpose, but still I'd like to know how they're supposed to work. The manual doesn't tell too much. For example, is it possible to adjust the MIDI channels somehow? Any advice?

I have no problem with the sustain pedal controlling the Korg Module. I just select the first percussion option and have my Module set to MIDI channel 2. Everything works fine.

Ok,

But doesn't your Mojo's own epiano sound keep playing in the lower manual in that case? I first mute the Mojo's internal epiano sound by a long press of the lower manual preset key (found this behaviour by trial and error). The lower manual still keeps sending MIDI which then controls the Module. And by the way, the mojo seems to send in ch5, but apparently it doesn't send the sustain key..

I find this little confusing..hence would like to have the Mojo MIDI behaviour documented somewhere. Does the documentation exist?

How about if you just mute the lower manual sound by pushing in all the draw bars and set the Module to receive on midi channel 2? Does the sustain pedal work then?

In firmware version 2.5 you can set the sustain pedal on and off for the lower manual by pressing shift and the lower manual preset 3. I found this on page 21 in the revision 10 Mojo manual.

Yes.. This is what I do. The lower manual sends on MIDI channel 2. The sustain does work.

Ok,

I think I got it sorted.

What I was looking/hoping for was a way to switch the lower manual from internal organ to to an external (Module) epiano tone by jusr pressing one knob.

Apparently that is not quite possible, but the prosesure is:

-enable the Mojos internal epiano by pressing shift and percussion (fast/slow button). This makes the lower manual to play both internal and external epaino(midi ch2) simultaneously.

-make a long press to lower manual preset key. this mutes the internal piano and sends midi to the Module in ch5. Now theres only the external Module epiano playing. no need to touch mixer/amp levels or mute channels there.

the reason why I was first not able to make the sustain pedal work was that I didn't select the internal epiano mode by shift+perc buttons. if the lower manual is in organ mode it doesn't seem to send sustain on/off, but a very low constant note instead. that is propably meant for the "pedal tapping" feature of the Mojo.

Hope this makes sense...

What I was looking/hoping for was a way to switch the lower manual from internal organ to to an external (Module) epiano tone by jusr pressing one knob.

I was able to get this working with a single button press. To switch from dual manual internal organ to triggering an external module with the lower manual press the Lower Manual button for about a second. This disables the internal organ sound on the lower manual and the external module is then triggered via midi on Ch 5. As mentioned previously, the sustain pedal works fine provided it's turned on (i.e., Shift+Lower Preset 3 using firmware 2.5).

Which firmware are you using? 2.5 might be needed for it to work this way.
