Cannot ID a pop song!

Only a small part of this song is lodged in my mind.

The notes are pretty standard, which makes it harder to ID.

but a bass note or changing chord tone, helps IDing it. There are also eighth notes chugging along underneath it,

I am guessing it is less then 20 years old. maybe under 5 years.

I will keep searching, with best of hits and perhaps even note recognition software, where you enter the notes. Problem is, the notes are only a few, are repetitious and most importantly, there is the moving bass tone or chord tone.

That key bass or chord tone moves in half steps for two measures per half step movement.

The song has an eerie quality.

My guess on the notes is:

quarter rest ( in common time ) then 3 quarters F E D I then same three notes but rhythm is maybe dotted quarter, dotted quarter , quarter F E D

That whole 6 note idea happens over two measures..

Then a bass note changes.

So the 3 notes could imply Dminor

and the bass note I believe is part of Dminor

but the 3rd and 4 th bars the bass note changes either to B or Bb

so quarter rest, quarter, quarte,r quarter ( F E D )

then next bar

Dotted Quarter, dotted quarter and quarter ( F E D )

that is 2 bars

then whole 2 bars repeats, only the bass note changes to B or Bb

and it goes on like that.

8 Eighths rolling underneath.

I have heard it more than a few times, and I am sure some or most of you have too. I believe it has a unique quality to it.

Give the Man a cigar! Sunglasses at Night it is. thank you. Wow 1984

I could only hear it minus the details which would have perhaps suggested to me -older rather than newer recording technique etc.

It is interesting how the musician ( or anyone's ) mind functions. I think I turned keyboard on, played an F chord then an F aug triad... and I started scuffling.. "What song is that!?"

I actually think I "heard" more than one tune at the same time... no wonder I do not compose music. I think there are 2 more songs still stuck in my mind, all based on the trigger of moving from major triad to augmented!

I think Robert Palmer's Early in the Morning may be one of them

But there is even another one up in that brain of mine.

Anyway, thank you for your astute analysis.

And btw there is no augmented in Sunglasses!

Just that bass motion I guess triggered the augmented triad associations.

Just musing:

The song is in Bb min

A " naturally occurring " aug triad would be Db+!! Not sure where aug came into it.

I *still* think it was "Look Who's Oinking".

Never heard of that one. :idk

It was banned in South East Pennsylvania.

OT but my question was answered

So.. wow, this Joey Alexander is a mature musician into metaphysics.

I honor at least in Principle, his words about prayer/ meditation before practising because I quite agree, music is spiritual in nature.
