skipclone 1
Or you could title it `For once, the mountain actually comes to Mohammed`. The gas station a block away from where I live, has been bought by a TV studio and turned into a performance space, with the idea of finding talent for Japanese TV. There are drink specials, karaoke and a live music area, open to all levels of performance up to pros. And it will all be streamed live on the internet. Today is the first full day of operation, I have not been there yet but looking forward to checking it out. Ya can`t even make this stuff up folks. Dannyalcatraz
How convenient. A lot TOO convenient if you ask me. Is the sushi menu titled "To Serve Man"? Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. skipclone 1
Haha! I will definitely watch out for that... but there is a catch-from the first time I signed to a talent agency here, I have made clear that no amount of money is going to get me on one of those stupid `let`s drop a car on the foreigner and watch what happens` shows that are all too common. Larryz
I would take a guitar with you and if looks like something fun and it's a go, then you'll be ready...if not, you can just sit it out and observe...It sounds like a cool project and may be worth getting involved early on. You may at least meet some new contacts in the business. Have fun! Take care, Larryz
skipclone 1
Well it`s only a block away and it`s kind of in the middle of nowhere entertainment-wise. It`s likely there would be no other foreigners there and taking a guitar along could backfire-even if it sucked I`d end up getting pressured to play Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
skipclone 1
In fact, I have no idea where they are expecting to find an audience-or even performers-for this place. They may know about this building and that there are foreigners here, but the whole idea is kind of weird. skipclone 1
That is very true-many of the comedy establishment are from the Osaka area, which is behind the curve with corporal punishment-that guy is not talking about symbolic demotion. A few years ago a judo coach killed a student for missing practice. Of course for TV the stupidity is calculated. Foreigners who are okay with playing the idiot can be well-paid. I am not okay. whitefang
That's different for sure. I once did a photo study I called "Out of Gas" in which I went around shooting pics of how old gas stations have been repurposed for other businesses. I ran across many that were turned into FLOWER SHOPS. One old MOBIL station near me is now a TIRE SHOP. some are CAR AUDIO shops and a few became sleazy adult movie theaters(imagine!) Never ran across one converted into the type of place YOU'RE talking about though. Sounds kinda OK to me.... Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left! skipclone 1
Well I`m kind of divided-the whole thing is so off the planet that I think I don`t have all the information-it may be just an experiment for a limited time, in which case I shouldn`t hover over it for too long. But while I`m fine with craziness, I don`t do stupid. If they`re looking for outrageouness, I`m fine-but as I said, not at my expense. Besides, I`m a contracted municipal employee. Technically, we`re not supposed to be taking outside employment without permission. Generally that is not strictly enforced unless someone is being flagrant, fraudulent or X-rated. Winston Psmith
In fact, I have no idea where they are expecting to find an audience-or even performers-for this place. They may know about this building and that there are foreigners here, but the whole idea is kind of weird. Forgive my ignorance, but would this kind of performance space appeal to the Japanese, or do you think it's specifically intended to draw in foreigners? Seems like a lot of effort and investment to convert the space, if they're not sure it's going to draw anyone. "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. skipclone 1
Well that is what I don`t get about it-considering the location in a residential area, I don`t see how they are expecting a bunch of foreigners to come running and if they did, the locals would waste no time in complaining (welcome to Japan). The information said they are seeking foreign or Japanese talent, so I guess they don`t care who shows up as long as it`s not nobody. In any case I`ll have more to say after a visit. Larryz
Since you're only a block away, leaving the guitar at home sounds like a good idea. You can always go get it if you want to...keep us posted! Take care, Larryz
