Amplification Suggestions for Clonewheel LH Bass

Recommended Posts

I'm going to playing LH bass on a Mojo in a new group soon, and I want to make sure that the band mates and the audience can feel the 'punch' of the bass notes. The group is playing various styles of blues.

I currently gig with my EV ELX122P speaker(s) when playing with a bass player, but they don't deliver the low end that I'm looking for in this new group.

What are you clonewheel bass players using? Should I just try to add a subwoofer to my setup?

Good mate of mine uses a Mark Bass Traveller 102 with a Mark Bass Little Mark III head underneath a custom chopped Leslie. I'm currently getting a 1x15 sub cabinet built to sit underneath a Leslie 142. Heard Pat Bianchi used an Aguilar setup with a 122. I reckon adding a sub option would be the most flexible option, perhaps even a 1x12 or 1x15 bass combo?

Do you plan to send the Mojo signal to FOH?

If so, I would stick with the ELX112P and put the burden of the bass punch on the FOH.

You might like adding a QSC K-sub to your rig. See if you can audition one.

Was it the Aguilar DB 112 - 1x12" 300W Bass Cab?

Potentially. I remember reading about it from a gig rig thread, or a gig review thread a while back.
