MorayM
New PG track "The Veil" dropped today: [video:youtube] Leaving aside the politics, it's slowly growing on me. The production is fabulous (as you might hope) and I love the sound design and the juxtaposition of the upright bass with the synthesized elements works really well. My first impression is that it's pretty weak lyrically. Not that I have a problem with people talking about real people and recent events in songs it just seems a bit heavy handed, particularly when Biko and We Do What We're Told handle it so much better. So leaving aside the politics, what do you think? Cephid - Progressive Electro Rock
Song80s
been a fan of PG since the early days. With his material, I either like a tune very much or not first listen does not get me. It is headphones material to break it down in terms of song writing Why fit in, when you were born to stand out ? Tusker
So leaving aside the politics, what do you think? Leaving aside the politics of the movie, the politics of information have always been interesting to PG as evinced by this Ted Talk where he talks about working with Witness to channel the power of distributed videography ... [video:youtube]HLuv7lsvWco So leaving aside the politics, what do you think? Like you I like it! Moray, this is really cool. Thanks for sharing! The sound design is far more interesting to me than say UP, which lived hopefully for months in my CD changer before Giant Steps pushed it into a box somewhere. (YMMV) The general vibe on this seems closer to tracks off SO and Security like We do What were Told which you mentioned and also Wallflower and The Family and the Fishing Net. Nothing like some PG to look forward to.
MorayM
I've not seen that TED talk before, thanks for sharing! I'd completely forgotten about ...Fishing Net, now you mention it I totally get that vibe. It's certainly whetted my appetite for more. Nothing like some PG to look forward to. Nothing indeed! stillearning
Been a fan since 1970, seen many tours going way back, even met the man in '75. Best live show I ever witnessed was Secret World Live. And yes, like the track. I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient and I will get to you shortly. Phil Aiken
Regarding both the specificity of reference, and the political content - I totally hear where you're going from, but I'd repectfully point out that it is a song written specifically for a movie with that subject, and that viewpoint. That's kinda what the gig WAS..... David Emm
What I think is totally colored by my bias in favor of anything Peter does. I'll buy the album when it appears, on general principles. How can I not be gripped by that percussion? It comes across like 4 or 5 Handsonic drummers being linked telepathically. There are a few artists whom I more deeply appreciate because every album is a huge music lesson. My drive to keep woodshedding has been greatly fueled by Genesis/Gabriel, King Crimson, Todd Rundgren and their contemporaries, as well as less-hailed but similarly enriching artists such as Rupert Hine. His album "Immunity" shows off his hefty production skills and puts some cold synth-shivers up your spine. I'm weary of politics, but I won't decry someone who makes a valid point in song. That's part of what its all for. When I started reclaiming the garden, my daughter laughed and said, “Ah! You’ve reached the age where it’s either God or gardening.” Little sh*t. ~ Warren Ellis
