Aaawww.

That's too bad.

He wasn't quite a household name, but everybody heard him at one point or another- and even more so, heard his influence.

His performances with the Talking Heads were fantastic, for just one little example from his long career. He played with a LOT of feeling and expressiveness and had his own sound and style. He was quintessentially funky and he rocked!

Just caught it in the paper this morning before signing on here.

His obit in The Free Press mentioned his being influenced by Keith Emerson as far as Moog use, and his use of the synth WAS INHO far more creative and funky than most of his genre's contemporaries ever managed with it.

What he brought to the Stop Making Sense party remade that band, IMO, & made them so much more fun & funky.

S0O0O0O0O0O0 VERY much agreed...

In fact, I believe that that was my introduction to him. And his keyboard sounds, style, and vibe filtered into my guitar playing (pun DEFINITELY INTENDED).

One of my biggest keyboard inspirations, along with Keith Emerson and Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), all of whom took a similar approach that was home-grown, dangerous (especially live), and always from the heart and full of passion.

The Talking Heads material is my favourite, because it felt to me that Worrell felt less constrained in that environment. I imagine he was given free reign and didn't have to worry about ego battles or control issues and that this liberated him.
