jyrkik
Has someone already checked out the Nefertiti? Unfortunately I am not nearby my Stage right now, but can hardly wait to try this out. bennyray
Yes i just tried it and it is very good. Really good for funk and jazz. They changed the tips, pickups and some other things to get this unique sound. It has the bark and bite factor. It is a 1970 model. Thanks for the heads up on the Ep. El Lobo
I checked it out on the web site. Have yet to load it into my new NE5D. But it sounds very funky. I think it could become my go-to EP. These are only my opinions, not supported by any actual knowledge, experience, or expertise.
El Lobo
Loaded it into my NE5D. I like it, but I'm not that whelmed. The differences are subtle, but there is indeed as much bark as you want to have. I'm a Wurly man myself, especially with a little tremelo. (Used to own a Wurly a long, long time ago.) Wurly model in the Nord EP's can be made to bark pretty nicely too. These are only my opinions, not supported by any actual knowledge, experience, or expertise.
bennyray
Same here. It is ok but needs to be tweaked. Sounds good for Living for the City Ep.

Kawai James
Delighted to see (and hear) a new EP sound from Clavia! Looking forward to trying it out in my Electro later. 20 mb seems a little small, especially given the larger memory capacity of the latest boards, however I cannot complain too much. Thanks for the heads-up jyrkik, and of course to the generous folks in Sweden for continuing to offer great value for their customers! Cheers, James x Employed by Kawai Japan, however the opinions I express are my own. Nord Electro 3 & occasional rare groove player.

harmonizer
.....20 mb seems a little small.... Just for a point of comparison, the previous EP sounds were only in the 5MB-6MB size range.
Kawai James
Just for a point of comparison, the previous EP sounds were only in the 5MB-6MB size range. Yes, the original (Electro 2-era?) EPs were smaller, that's true. However, in recent years we have had the Sparkletop (12 mb) and Amped Tines (31 mb). Sure, a large sample size doesn't guarantee that it will sound good or play well, but it helps. I guess 20 mb compressed isn't too bad...but it's far smaller than VST libraries, and probably the EP patches in the Kronos. AnotherScott
I guess 20 mb compressed isn't too bad...but it's far smaller than VST libraries, and probably the EP patches in the Kronos. The Kronos EP1 engine is based on modeling rather than the straight sample playback that the Nord (or the Kronos' own HD1 engine) are, so you couldn't really do a size comparison anyway. Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! El Lobo
Dial in the twin, a little dist and push the mid at 1.5k...woahhh. Thanks. I'll do that. I stored my program settings as "barky rhodes." Thinking of using that as my stage name. These are only my opinions, not supported by any actual knowledge, experience, or expertise.

musicbysterling
Very stupid question here, but what EQ settings are you guys using to coax a bark on the Rhodes and Wurlie sounds? Mid range tweaking is always a challenge for me. Ah, music," he said, wiping his eyes. "A magic beyond all we do here! J.K. fjzingo
Not a stupid question at all 1.2-1.5 k is a good area of cranking up. On the stage I sometimes give full high and full bass then cutting some around 800. Twin amp sim and dist is always good. Depends on what kind of bark you want? /Fred Cantaloop Soulfetch Soulbox
mate stubb
One of the amp sims is wurli specific (#2?) so using that for wurli is a no brainer. mate stubb
I read that one sim models the Wurli 6x9 speaker sound. I use it on my Wurli patches and it sounds great. I think it is #2. The others were supposed to be a Twin Reverb and a Roland JC. El Lobo
Oh I see. I think it's the first one that's called "small" on my 5D. I tried it and it does make it sound more like my old Wurli from the 70's. It's that small speaker sound. You can overdrive it more easily. The other sims are Twin and JC, then there's rotary and comp(ression) These are only my opinions, not supported by any actual knowledge, experience, or expertise. mate stubb
Yes, if you look in the manual they specify that Small == wurli 200a speakers. Nordude
Thus far, this Nefertiti Rhodes suits me well. An upgrade from the similar EP2 sample. Haven't yet tried in ensemble or recording situations, though.

AnotherScott
I'll have to check this out at some point. My problem with the Nord's Rhodes was that they had one sample set that I really liked except the bark wasn't quite right, and another had the bark I wanted but wasn't as good at the lower velocities. I wished I could have combined the lower velocities of one with the higher velocities of the other, but as it was, I ended up preferring Korg, Kawai, and Kurzweil boards for Rhodes. (And still haven't had the chance to check out the Yamaha CP1/5/50/4/40/reface which so many people like, too.) Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug!
