A Bit OT: Anyone remember the 70's sci-fi movie...

No. In this movie, he's performing publicly, and the fact that it's one guy is something of a joke or visual punchline. I think I remember the synth being lit up in some way as well.

But the idea of the brief scene is, look how funny it is that music could someday be made like this (which is the part that interests me, and the reason I wish I'd kept at least three brain cells intact in case I needed them someday).

"Ghost of Christmas Present" released 12.2.22 * (Not the jolly kind of Christmas song.)

Pretty sure you're talking about "Big".

That wasn't a sci-fi movie, and was released in 1988.

A kid puts a coin into an arcade fortune-telling machine and wakes up the next morning as a 30-year old man isn't sci-fi???

Yes. He plays a duet performing "Heart and Soul" and "Chopsticks." with Robert Loggia. I remember seeing that at the theater with my mom. I think they shot it at the old FAO Schwarz.

Anachronisms like that can be funny. Similarly there's a scene in Woody Allen's classic comedy "Take the Money and Run" where Woody's character is at a job interview and the guy asks him, "Have you ever worked with a high-speed digital computer?" Woody stammers, "Yes....my aunt has one." Funny that back in '71 when the movie came out, this was an absurd, ridiculous statement, that somebody's aunt would have a computer!

Well it's fiction, just not exactly what I'd call bona fide science fiction.

True. Sadly it closed last summer.

We were talking about this at work. I remember going as a kid in there like in 1978. I couldnt believe it. I think a Dutch firm owned it but due to the business model and the internet it shut down. I was passed around to different companies for a long time.

Went there on vacation last summer with my family. Went into AO Schwartz and played this infamous instrument.

Despite not having midi-out, my dislike for mini-keys was exacerbated by the experience. :keynana:

It was a joke; I get it. Funny how that has changed the conversation

I know right? First time ever a thread has been derailed here.

I was also there 3 weeks before it closed. Have pictures of my 2 youngest children "playing it". Priceless. :thu:

OK, sorry, MOI. carry on.

I was (and still am) so disappointed by the mothership landing in Close Encounters. Earlier, when the smaller ships make their appearance they sing with the most gorgeous synth tones. The mothership lands and what do we get? Tubas. Fucking tubas. Williams had a chance to create something truly otherworldly and blew it. No pun intended.

That was a high pressure gig. I would who have probably hit a clam and caused the plot to go totally "Independence Day".

Was it Max Rebo in Return of the Jedi?

That's the way my rig looks to me now and that's how I look in the mirror. I probably need a med check. Funny, but that's the one Star Wars toy I own. My take on it: Max plays microtonally and I want no part of it. We should demand that someone re-issue the Muppets' Dr. Teeth figure, with keyboard. Oh yeah, that's heading for the top of everyone's To-Do list, sure it is.

Also... "The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T" was seen as a surrealist kid's nightmare, where endless piano lessons are given on an instrument whose keyboard snakes around a vast space. They seemed to hate it, but I envied the hell out of them. :keynana: Of such strange layers are keyboard types made.
