Work friendly Avatars

Recommended Posts

Like many other people here I like to occasionally browse these forums from work. Whats making this increasingly risky to do is that some people are choosing to use pictures that could easily be taken as offensive. Im talking about bouncing breasts, dildos, etc. Can we clean it up a bit, please? I personally dont take these images as offensive, but if a female co-worker were to walk by when I was browsing and happened to see these you can bet your ass that Id probably be out of my job.

Thanks,

Dylan

I think Dylan has a point too, this is a music site not a porno site. Keep it professional.

Where did this artificial division between 'porn' and 'music' and 'porn' and 'professionalism' come from?

I haven't seen any 'porn' here anyway, but that's beside the point.

People in the porn industry are professionals, including those who make music for porn.

Not that I see how this is relevant

I'm with Dylan and DJ Wayne on this one.

I like having avatars when I'm browsing threads. It makes identifying people I particularly want to hear from much easier than scannning text. Also those I'd rather skim over. I enjoy a high speed connection at work, too. So graphics are not an issue like at home, where I'm on dial up.

Why is it that a few people insist on treating a simple request for toning down the visuals as some kind of personal attack? There are quite a variety of issues with various pics posted here that, IMO, cross the line by a mile. I'm not fond of the bouncing breasts, though they're borderline offensive, IMO. The dildo and the accompanying screenname? That should be stricken. For one thing, how do you suggest we, who surf at work, make the screenname disappear and still contribute here, Sal?

Even the cunnilingus thread title should be removed. Just like the aborted fetus pictures, etc.

We've had some heated disagreements in the past, Sal, but I don't remember you acting like a troll before, as you have here to Dylan and DJ Wayne, in particular. What gives?

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman

My posts aren't trolling just because you don't agree, Neil.

If you are afraid of getting caught doing something you shouldn't at work, then don't do what you aren't supposed to. Don't shift that burden onto the rest of us.

Thread titles?? Come on man, what are we in kindergarten here?

My posts regarding porn being potentially on topic are not only sincere, but clearly accurate IMO.

fwiw, I do try to keep my avatars tame and I would hope most who hang at this very diverse, often family oriented community. I wouldn't ask anyone to censor themselves if they have a point they're trying to make with an image but in the spirit of community no one should have to.

You can be funny without being blatently offensive...I don't find a picture of a dildo offensive but I'm not oblivious to the fact that it DOES offend some people.

yeah my language or overall sense of humor can be a bit offensive at time, I know this but there is a fine line I try not to cross, we should probably all be aware of that kind of thing.

just my 2 cents...pictures of dildos are cool in my book but using one as an avatar is a bit much. another thing to consider is site that sell dildos are often on 'porn related' servers which could cause a red alert to go off for some network administrators.

be cool everyone :)

Where did that come from?

This is a site by and for musicians. That's about as far from family-oriented as you can get in my opinion.

haha...damn you...haha...well, I don't think I said it was a family oriented site, it's not...but a large chunk of the people who hang here seem to be family oriented folk, whatever that means.????.

I dunno, basically all I'm saying is there are a lot of people who hang here regularly (not just passing through) who would be offended by things I think are just funny. Those same people are pretty good about accepting the bunch of us who aren't so lily so I try to offer the same respect to them.

I might post a naked picture if it fits a topic or a picture of gays kissing or whatever, if it makes sense but to just drop an offensive avatar whereever you post...well, it's almost like littering, no?

whatever, this shouldn't be a big deal either way but when I saw the dildo avatar I did shake my head and say "now why would someone do that? unnecessary, rude even..hmmm"

hehe since this is a music site I took the symbol to be a loosely veiled reference to the theremin !

You're right about the work thing Dylan, hehe I have to be careful what I'm lookin at recently - I'm a lame duck in my 'job' and not a good example though. In fact I never surfed on the job during my career like sal mentions - times change but that's another story !

Maybe I didnt make myself clear. I never said that I didnt want to get caught browsing the forums. I work my ass off and my boss knows that. If I have 3 PCs doing something then my co-workers have no problem with me taking a break and reading the forums. I just dont want to worry about offensive images coming into play, thats all.
