First few hundred or so had clear wheels. All the RA Moog and Musonics had them, as did early Moog Music ones. You can also tell from the photos that the keys are not perfectly level as a new keyboard would be. Old minis are notorious for having key leveling issues. That's a common issue with any vintage synth using the Pratt-Read Keysets. The bushings under the keys dry out and disintegrate, creating the "snaggletooth" look. I never liked those white wheels with the teeth. I owned 3 Minimoog D and still own one of those. 2 had non-teeth white wheels, the 3rd had white wheels w/ teeth. But as someone doing lots of pitchbend and trying to hit different target notes within a scale as perfect as possible, I hated ´em when hands got sweaty. In fact I replaced all with the white ones w/ teeth. ... the keys are not perfectly level as a new keyboard would be. Old minis are notorious for having key leveling issues. Well, that´s the bushings. Replacing those fixes the issue but is a cumbersome job as is cleaning and alining keycontact busbars w/o breaking keycontact springs. But now, when they managed to use a velocity sensitive Fatar TP-9S in the Minimoog D re-issues, I wonder if it´s possible doing such mod to any old Minimoog D too,- once someone finds out how the keys and scanboards connect to the normally CV receiving Minimoog electronics. I guess there might be some MIDI/CV converter inside since the toy now has MIDI. I hope someone opens the thing and reports near future. A.C. Jon Anderson told the audience he was suffering from a cold, and then proceeded to exceed expectations as I thought he sounded amazing. They made some nice changes to some of the songs (Wakeman did an awesome minimoog solo at the end of Rhythm of Love for example). Awaken was really excellent. The Fish was a highlight of the show also (bass player did a great job and did some nice improvisation). Nice to hear real minimoogs and that cut though the mix. The band clearly was having fun and the enthusiasm was contagious. The difference between these guys' performance and the remnants of the previous Yes tour is so dramatic that you can't even compare them. The sound was esquisite, the musicianship off the charts, and the lighting, absolutely stunning. Don't miss this show! And one more thing. Not to sound like a broken record... but how the hell does a 72 year old man sound this good when he is sick? You can hear between songs how congested he was when he spoke to the audience, and then he sound like this for two hours? I just don't get it. Oh yeah, and Wakeman was sublime. Best I ever heard him. (I was shocked that Goldstar had tickets two days before the show and I got middle of the orchestra center. No complaints.) As others noted, great show and my first time seeing Rick/Jon live. I hope I have their energy when I'm in my 70's. Rick played great as usual but he really looked like he was sick from a cold. (maybe from Jon). Many times he was playing with his left hand and covering his mouth with his right while coughing. Didn't hurt his performance though. Some may not like the "keytar parade", I get that, but in this case, depending on where you're sitting, I got to stand next to one of my keyboard heroes. I wish his chops would rub off. That being said, Wakeman is truly one of the great musicians of our time. From his exquisite mellotron work on Space Oddity to his spectacular work with Yes and his solo career, this man was and is a huge influence on keyboard players of multiple generations. Tonysounds Posted December 16, 2016 Share Posted December 16, 2016 Regarding the Voyager, he was disappointed in its sound vs the original minimoogs; I told him the reissues sounded great, he said something along the lines of "I'll believe it when I see it!" Both Minimoogs in his current rig are reissues. Telltale black rocker switches under glide and modulation mix knobs. I don't think so. Maybe the rocker switches are reissues Also look at the back panel. After closer inspection, they are not the reissues. The telltale sign is the pointed "diving board" shape of the tips of the Pratt-Read keysets on the originals. Since PR ceased to exist since the 90s, reissues use Fatar keys which aren't the same pointed shape on the tips. There ARE controls under those knobs that are not on the originals. Did I tell you I'm an expert trainspotter of vintage gear...?!? Telltale is the new Gamechanger! Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me. I could have told you that...he said he hasn't even played one of the reissues. He owns nine Minis. Carries four on the road with him. Honestly - I get the idea that his tech Erik cares more about the gear itself than Rick does. Rick even said as much that's he's not terribly technical. He mainly seems to care what it sounds like, not how it gets that way. They make it quite clear in the interview that - with the obvious exception of the MInis - Rick uses most of the keyboards mainly as controllers, and it almost never happens that only one instrument is used in any sound he makes (again, excluding the Minis).
