aeon
given the show is on delay, there is no reason the tv audience had to see the technical snafus surrounding Celine Dions performance. I liked the White Stripes though...my grandma did too. Go tell someone you love that you love them.

RobT
Prince & Beyonce - great opening the White Stripes - need a bass player (time for a snack) Nice tribute to Luther Vandross. I am really liking Alica Keys the more I hear her. The folks who are doing sound for Celine Dion will never work the Grammys again! Man, Patti LaBelle looks great for a 50+ woman I hope my wife ages that well ... vesper_dup1
Alicia Keys did not sound good at all. OK, maybe there was one phrase or note that was pleasant. I've heard her do a lot better than she did tonight. Not Just Busy, But About The Business
Lee Tyler
1:50 minutes in: Weird show so far...and actually quite "musical". Anyone have recent memory of the past few years of this particular awards show? I coulda' sworn it was heavily weighted in favor of the rap/hip-hop genre. Pretty strange up to this point. Lee Tyler
Too many cooks ended up in the kitchen with EWF alright. And 50 cent? Little snapper-headed shit-ass. Classless bloke. As for Beyonce, that gal has a wonderful, strong, sweet voice...but enuff with the frickin jiveass vocal gymnastics already. Getting real old in the ballad genre. Ladies and gents, give the gymnastics a fucking break already....and re-learn ME-LO-DY. IMHO, the melodic vision of many ballads get lost in the bravado of "watch what I can do with this-a-here one breath". Lee Tyler
The big money-makers are getting DISSED so far @ 2:42 into this awards show. I believe we are either witnessing an industry fluke, or a trend towards music that is actually played and sung. What a concept!!! Perhaps this night was a result of a quick fix behind the scenes to pacify the pissed-off crowd from the super-bowl?? However, I can't really see the producers of tonight's show pulling this off or doing this at all. Toned down big time. I find myself quite surprised. Am I alone here? Philter
I bought that Beyonce record. If it's worth 4 grammys, a grammy's worth nothing. It's the perfect example of why the business is dying. One good song, which is really just the sampled best parts of a classic, followed by a number of unlistenable tracks. She can sing, but she's got no material. ---------------------------- Phil Mann http://www.wideblacksky.com
mjmclane
Not only did Celine Dion not have monitors, there were no FX or anything. . .zip, zilch, nada. And ya know, not only was it a testament to her and the piano player's professionality, it actually sounded better, more personal. Given the song she was doing it came off better than the way the producers probably planned it.

vesper_dup1
Why no real tribute to Barry White? I could have done without this boring Zevon tribute. Heck, I don't even know who he is, really. If you're not going to adequately recognize everyone of really & truly great and notable stature it's better to leave it alone. The picture tribute was all that was necessary. As a Barry White fan, I feel that his legacy has been disrespected, as have many others. Phil, you are right on about Beyonce's lack of credible songs. Great talent, no songs. Fendercaster
Warren Zevon was an artist of truly great and notable stature, maybe not so much on Top 40 radio airplay. Carole King is getting a bit wide in the hips, but she's still my hero among songwriters. My gear: http://fendercaster.freeservers.com/guit3.html If you own two Lexus cars, do you have Lexi? Philip OKeefe
It started here about 15 minutes ago. Nice opening - Prince was on it, and Beyonce has a great voice - but she needs to back off on the vocal gymnastics a bit. The Beatles tribute was a bit of a laugh. I thought Vince Gill did a great job - Dave Matthews should be embarrassed. Sting should have done better - Vince upstaged them both IMO.

Philip OKeefe
White Stripes... they're not impressing me very much. Yes, they do need a bass player - things get too thin when he solos. And personally, I find his voice to be nearly as annoying as Geddy Lee's.
