Chad Thorne Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Got a chance to buy a T-312 for 60 bucks. I understand this is not among the most highly prized models. I'm going to go listen to it, and if I find the tone tolerable/acceptable, my idea was to chop it in order to gig out with it. Thoughts?
mate stubb Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 It's got actual tonewheels, so that is good. Solid state preamp, so not a lot of warmth. Extra rhythm machine sounds you won't use. If you are interested in chopping, it would be a decent organ to try it on. Moe ---
MoodyBluesKeys Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Putting it through a Vent would probably help considerably on the warmth. For $60, you are getting your money's worth, if it is running and all the notes play. WesG Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 In case you care, I can move a T-500 (heaver than the 300) solo with nothing more than a convertible hand truck dolly, two tie-downs, and a knowledge of physics. Provided I don't have to cross more than 3 stairs at a time. The only advantage to chopping is a spinet is legroom going up and down stairs. 90% of the weight is in the manuals and tone generator, which you can't really eliminate. Chopping the T-300 would also mean eliminating the internal Leslie, which you might want to keep. They sound okay mic'd as long as you get the mic nice and close. A screw-on mic stand nub across from the expression pedal dog house, plus a 12" gooseneck and Bob's your uncle. If the rhythm machine is like the T500 (it probably is) removing it will also kill the lower manual unless you can fashion a bypass plug. The cassette connector is the right kind, assuming yours is a T-312c. Chad Thorne Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 I thought to chop it not so much for weight, but for being able to get it into my car to take to gigs. In a band context I don't use pedals anyway. I have a Boss RT-22; but might there be a way to set up the internal Leslie externally? I also have a Combo Preamp II for my Leslie 760. Could this be used to add warmth?
WesG Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 The CPA2 is about as far from warm as it gets. What do you drive? Can you knock the organ on it's back? FWIW I drive a minivan because I am a keyboard player....can't even get my weighted 88 into the wife's car. Just part of the TCO.
