Dana. Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Has anyone gone this route? Apparently getting the Neo-Soul Keys into a MOXF requires a 1 GB flash board that's $375(?!) plus $200 for Neo-Soul Keys? Does anyone know how they play from the MOXF6 action?
richforman Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Hadn't heard about that (haven't been visiting motifator.com in a while). First of all, does this library use all of a 1gb flash board, or just require that you indeed have a board? I have a 1/2 gig board in my MOXF8 that's already mostly taken up by other libraries but might upgrade to a larger card to house more sounds if they're really good and useful. So my question would be how much this requires, and what is the content. Where are the details? thanks! Dana. Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 I tried to navigate the Gospel Musicians site and it gave me a headache. As best I can tell, you need a 1 GB board. Apparently you get this: http://store.gospelmusicians.com/Yamaha_Motif_Flash/ And then you get this: http://store.gospelmusicians.com/Jamals_Flash/ GM seems to be selling the flash board with a $160 mark-up over Amazon... WTF?

Aidan Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Agree that the flash board is overpriced, so you're probably better buying elsewhere. If you want just the Neo Soul keys, this is only $79, so you could knock a bit off the price, although it's not as good value, obviously. Yamaha: P515, CP88, Genos 1, HX1
Dave Osoff Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I have the Neo Soul Stage library and MOXF6. I honestly use the MOXF6 more as a midi sound source these days in my studio - for me the MOXF6 action doesn't offer much expressiveness for piano / Rhodes samples compared to the XS/XF keybed. With the exception of the flashboard capability I kinda wish I had held on to my XS7 (at least for gigs)... Anyways the Neo Soul Stage EP that I have is 527 MB - I paid 79.00 for that a few years ago. Not sure if this is the one you are talking about - I get confused with their different Rhodes libraries. I don't use it as much as I used to though - it sounds good but never really inspired me too much, nor did the Chick Bank... Another one I've been really enjoying lately is the Precision Sound Dusty Mark II - about 230 MB, 5 velocity layers + 3 release layers. I transferred it to Motif XS/XF format with the John Melas waveform editor. The KeyboardWaves MK II Rhodes is good also. I just bought that one in Kronos format. Those are both a lot cheaper in price than the Neo-Soul, but well worth checking out. Dave Osoff Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 BTW, I have a 512 MB Flashboard that I am not using if anyone wants a good deal - PM me. midinut Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I seem to remember a comparison Jamal did at his website of all the versions of Neo-Soul Keys. IIRC, the Kontakt version was the most feature laden and contained pretty much everything from all the the versions. If you have Kontakt, THAT might be the way to go. Just throwing it out there. I wonder if the Melas software would let you convert the Komplete version to one that would work in the MOXF. I'm looking at a MOXF6 myself. I had a Motif ES6 and miss its sounds. Dave Osoff Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Nice! Precision Sound does good work. I just picked up their Wurly P200 bank and am thinking about a few others - big 1/2 price sale right now. If you do get it and need help with the conversion to Motif let me know. I'm not a Kontakt / VST user but I'm always looking for new sound libraries I can use or convert to Motif or Kronos. Botanicus Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Nice sounding EPs. So, with the formats they offer, how would you get the sounds into a MOXF or Kronos? (Referring to Precision Sound)
Dave Osoff Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Originally I did the Motif formatting manually by directly importing all 520+ samples 1 by 1 into the Motif. Ouch!! Now a few years later, it's easy. Just use the John Melas Waveform editor for Motif conversion - it works great, robust, I've never had any unreliability issues or crashing like some other conversion software has been notorious for... You can import the wavs directly into the software and separate each velocity layer of the 8 velocity layers into it's own Element (8 elements, 8 layers per Motif Voice - a perfect fit!). The software retains all information for each sample for velocity ranges, etc.) Then save the new waveform as an All file or Waveform file for either XS or XF and load via flash drive. Now Precision also offers SF2 (Soundfont format) files with the download which can be directly imported into the Kronos or imported into the Melas software for Motif and saved as a Motif formatted file. This is even easier. The SF2 when imported also retains all the velocity info for each sample, and outputs into 1 voice with the 5 velocity layers and 1 voice with the 3 release layers. Those could be combined into a 2 voice performance or just combined into a single 8 element voice - Release layers set for KEYOFF. The SF2 import into my Kronos took some tweaking and extra work to get a smooth response because the velocity layers separated a little differently. I had to separate some samples into their own oscillator because of some odd velocity ranges and then made a 4 voice COMBI file. Now it plays great. Anyway, since there is some interest in this library, I'll send Precision a note (I don't work for them by the way ;-) ) and see if they might be interested in having me send them a Motif and/or Kronos pre-formated file to include in future downloads. Admittedly I have about 10 years more experience with the Motifs and I'm still learning my way around the Kronos. But the sample library plays and sounds great on both. t For Motif, I'd recommend buying the Melas Waveform editor software. http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/wave.php It's a great investment for anyone who uses sampling a lot on the Motif - 60 euro. But if some folks on here just want to buy the sounds and need help converting it, I'd be happy to help you convert the file into whatever Motif format you need. PM me. I bought the P200 Wurly library about a week ago but haven't done the conversion yet. It has 10 velocity layers, so it would have to be made into a 2 voice performance on Motif.
