IndySteve Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I've long been mostly a Mac guy, but I got a Windows laptop 5 years ago to run freeware softsynths, and it isn't so bad. I'm curious about the new wave of Windows computers that also run as tablets, the most advertised ones now are the Microsoft Surface 3 and the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. These computers have roughly the same specs as the Macbook Air, so they should run standard music software just fine. Are any of you using them as a main or auxiliary music computer? Come out with your hands up! I have a synthesizer, and I'm not afraid to use it.
Ashville.Guru Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Discussed here. I believe @DaBous uses a Yoga, and @voxpops uses a Surface. Since you're coming from a Mac, there are a couple of heads-ups. Win computers typically need some optimization/tweaks to be performed to get them ready for pro-audio. So your aptitude decides how good an experience it will be - whether you expect things to work out of the box with minimal fuss, or are willing to roll up your sleeves and get the best out of your system. Both are fine, of course! - Guru This is really what MIDI was originally about encouraging cooperation between companies that make the world a more creative place." - Dave Smith
ksoper Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 My wife is about to pitch her Lenovo Yoga 2 (Intel I3) 11 in the trash. It's a wonky beast with poor touch integration. She's got a very low threshold for computer idiosyncrasies and I may swap it out for a more conventional laptop. Best of luck in your search.
