My town has become a hotbed of local breweries. One of the most interesting brews is the Hardywood Gingerbread Stout. This stuff has developed a cult following as they only release a limited amount in bottles and kegs each holiday season. It only goes to certain stores and people line up to buy it. The bars that have it on tap sell out of it quickly. It is delicious.

I was happy that a friend gifted me a few bottles. They also make a version called Bourbon Gingerbread Stout.

Dogfish Head Sah'Tea is amazing. I sure wish it would actually be available once in a while in stores.

We play here almost once a month. They pay us in beer...a case a piece. Gotta keep stocked up!

They have a great IPA, and espresso stout as well.

There are at least a dozen more breweries in town, a few of which we play at occasionally. Pretty great for such a small town.

I live about 12 miles outside of Williamsburg, Va. We have Alewerks Brewing They have a nice selection of craft beers, it sort of makes up for also having an Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser) brewery. There are also a couple of other small breweries in the Hampton Roads area.

One of the best beers I've ever tasted is Caffrey's Irish Ale. Drank it almost every night while working in England for about 5 weeks.

Worst beer I ever tasted was at a brasserie in Orleans, France. It's a Belgian blonde beer called Leffe. Ugh!

I'm quite partial to German wheat beers and English bitters.

There are so many breweries in the Bend Oregon area is hard to keep track. That last count I read there was 20 breweries. We play at one of the brew pubs a couple times a year.

There are Pedal powered and walking tours to some of the brew pubs as there are 6 or 7 near downtown.

We play for free. We get paid to set up and tear down.

it is, Ken, just not often on the left coast. Dan Long probably has a case of it in his garage.

I haven't tried that one yet, but I will now.

I'm in Charleston SC this week on vacation and have found a bunch of brews that I can't get at home. Lots of stouts, some bourbon barrel aged ales, and a couple cases of Westbrook IPA, Rye PA, and Gose. I think I've spent $200 on beer to bring home. :)

Hmmmmm....I realize this is a bit forward, but do you think I can move in with him?

Here's a pic of my score from my trip to Charleston. I can't get any of these in DE... All the 12oz bottles I got 4 or 6 packs of.

Most interesting is the Westbrook Gose. Never had that style before, very tart and somewhat salty.

I'm mastering this one right now:

I'm not a fan of wheat beers. There is something tongue-numbing about them that I don't like.

My all-time favorite beer, currently unavailable in Florida (but I hear you can buy it in Ohio):

I hauled a rack (case) of this stuff from Frankfurt, then completely across the Atlanta Hartsfield airport, from International Concourse to - believe it or not - Gate #1: the furthest you can travel in that giant airport, then home to Florida.

It was worth it.

Probably because Guinness is the Budweiser of stouts? :)

I actually enjoy a Guinness from time to time, but there are many better stouts out there.

Two pages of posts about beer, and not a single mention of Guinness?!?!

Maybe because there is Guiness, and then there is beer. Guiness is more like Ambrosia...

There is nothing like a Guiness poured properly.

Hate to tell you: a dunkel is a dark wheat beer.

I checked this one out recently pretty much based on the name, the picture, and because it's dark. It turned out to be really good:
