richforman Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Hadn't heard or thought about this pretty obscure early Chicago album track in many many years, until I heard it again on XM Deep Tracks yesterday. I'm sure there are others but this is the only song I could think of that mentions B3's in the lyrics (do you know any others?) and they include the "Leslies spinning 'round" too! Kind of cool since relatively few listeners might have realized what they were talking about. I don't remember if I did either when I knew this song as a kid, I think back then I found it cryptic and thought Leslie was a person in their entourage who was spinning around for unspecified reasons (did recognize the song as being about life on the road), but hearing it now decades later it all made sense! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_4C7WzeBQQ Rich Forman Yamaha MOXF8, Korg Kronos 2-61, Roland Fantom X7, Ferrofish B4000+ organ module, Roland VR-09, EV ZLX12P, K&M Spider Pro stand, Yamaha S80, Korg Trinity Plus
Joe Muscara Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I didn't know that. I'm not terribly familiar with a few more than their really popular tracks, except that I own CTA, II, and X. richforman Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Well yeah at the beginning it sounds very much like "Teach Your Children," but then it roams to much more interesting/surprising harmonic places than that one ever does. richforman Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Okay, since this is my thread I get to make the rules, and songs just mentioning organ generically a la "Dance to the Music" and "Tighten Up" don't count! Mention of the Hammond brand is 3/4 credit. Only Mighty Ferguson's contribution meets the requirements so far; isolated mention of the Leslie as in Mate Stubb's Steppenwolf clip, gets an asterisk in the record book. Baldwin Funster Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 How about lyrics mentioning a DX7 or any other specific keyboard model? Has the word moog ever appeared on a lyric sheet? I'm seeing a serious omission of acknowledgement of keyboards in popular culture. FunMachine.

richforman Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 I feel like I've heard a song that mentions a DX7, it will probably surface to my conscious brain after my subconscious searches around for a day or two.
