Wonderful Grrrlfriend ~ Early Christmas ~ NPD ~ EH B9 !!

I've stated here and elsewhere that I wished that there was a way to turn off or bypass the Electro-Harmonix B9's and C9's on-board modulation, so that other, better Leslie/rotary sims- or REAL, LIVE Leslies, 'Vibes, etc.- could be used; and that if so, I'm sure that I would have already bought a B9 or C9 by now.

Well, guess what?! My wonderful, sweet, thoughtful Grrrlfriend Elizabeth surprised me with an early Christmas present, an EH B9! She'd seen a video I'd checked out, and knew that I loved copping fake organ and keyboard sounds.

AND it turns out that its Mod-knob does turn off the modulation when dialed all the way counter-clockwise, after all.:2thu:

It's a LOT of fun, and I can see already that I'll eventually wind up getting their C9, as well. It is very 'touch-sensitive', for both better and for worse; careful technique is rewarded, whereas sloppy playing is likely to return sloppy sound, though the pedal's actually pretty forgiving overall. Fingerstyle playing particularly suits this pedal.

I can't wait to feed it through my Boss RT-20 Leslie/rotary sim pedal! Its own modulation effects are alright, but I expect the combination of the two pedals to be excellent, quite a step up. And it sounds great with overdrive or distortion. It tracks very well, sounds great with single-notes and double-stops, and pretty damn good with full-on chords, too. A little space between lower and middle and higher voices within chords and riffs yields better results, and also sounds more like what an actual keyboard player might play. While it often exhibits a bit of a mind of its own, the results are usually pretty cool sounding, anyway.

It certainly sounded great when you were trying it out last night. I am glad you're enjoying it and hope that it comes in handy for you more often than not. I love you! Merry Christmas!

Dang! Good for you, Caev.

Women that "get it" are diamonds! I've got one too Caev - Elizabeth sounds like a fine lady - I have a few suggestions for an early xmas present for her - but I can't say it here... :D:2thu:

Some perspective: on another board, I'm helping a guy find a new LP because his GF broke his in a fit of rage. I mean, broken tuners, cracked the neck and assorted gouges/chips./slashes from a big-ass knife.

A bit of info that might prove useful to some- I've found that the B9 doesn't like to share voltage on a daisy-chained power-supply such as a Visual Sound 1 Spot; a very annoying, very noticeable constant high, droning, whining noise can result. Simply power it with a separate power-supply or battery, or an isolated 9v supply such as those of the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power line of power supplies. I'd bet that the C9 is the same in this.

Good to know, but sorry to hear this about the B9...I know you'll still have fun with it. You'll just run that extra power supply, but that's not a big deal compared to the fun you're going to have...

My Strymons also need either their own individual power-supplies, or that of a good PS like a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power unit; they exhibit some odd electronic 'hash' in the background if powered on a daisy-chain.

cool. i would love one for creepy organ sounds.

congrats buddy.

I think some creepiness could be conjured up outta this box... Especially with some weird modulation put after it, like fast vibrato, a UniVibe, etc. Although its on-board modulation effects- which vary with each of the nine presets- can and will deliver very well. I really like running it through my Boss RT-20 Leslie/rotary-sim pedal. The B9 also works very well with overdrive or distortion. Reverb is also pretty cool with it.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SS6Block <--- I've been using one of these Furman power strip/filters with my one spot (and when I had to run an 18v for one of my pedals), for quite a few years now. You could run up to 6 separate power warts and mount the strip on a pedal board (or in a milk crate if you're still using that method LOL!) I don't know if it would help your situation Caevan, but so far I haven't had any noise problems to include letting other players plug-in with me...maybe I've just been lucky with the pedal selections over the years...I do like the extension cord with the strip and it's very well made. I use the lighted on/off switch a lot too...Hope that power supply you're contemplating will do the job for you!

That is EXACTLY the same specific outlet-strip that I have and use; I like it a lot. Some pedals and devices do NOT work well with daisy-chained power, and just have to have their own individual isolated, UN-shared power-supply, either a battery or a separate individual power-supply or one of the outputs of a power-supply like the Pedal Power line. Both of my Strymons are like that, and they won't run on batteries. I can run the EH B9 off a battery, or, better yet, a good 9v PS; problem solved. :)

I have a few of these short extension-chords, that light up with internal LED's, to save space on my outlet-box; they're great for wall-wart power-supplies...

:blush: D'oh! I'd previously recommended, among other solutions to noise issues, running the B9 (or C9) on a 9v battery; turns out, it does not take a battery. Sorry for the misinformation!

Where did you find those? In one of his books, I think Guitar Gadgets, Craig Anderton had an illustration for a wall-wart tamer you could make, with parts from the hardware store, but it wouldn't handle 3-prong plugs. I wound up using a Monster power strip on the floor, and a Furman M8-x in my effects rack, because both of them have sockets designed for wall-warts.

I have mixed feelings about somewhat promoting either company, but I saw and bought those in a Mal~Wart, I mean Wal~Mart, when looking for something my Mother needed; and the image I posted above was from a sales-'page on Amazon-dot-com.

They're very helpful, and I like their LED's lighting-up once plugged-in to power- sometimes handy on a dim or dark stage! (NOT that I'm gigging an awful a lot... !:crazy: )

Hmmmmnnn.... I haven't had any trouble with the three that I bought- and I'm not certain that mine are the same, but they probably are. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll have to keep an eye on 'em!
