Brettymike Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 It's only madness if they keep advertising for that price , and they never sell . I see more madness (by far) with old painting prices. Brett
Jim Alfredson Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 It's kinda like that D6 Clavinet that's been on eBay forever at $5999. Oh, I see they lowered it to $5699. burningbusch Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 One of my favorite places to look is Reverb.com. You can find some bizarre stuff there. Some of the pieces are ridiculously priced, but not all. https://reverb.com/marketplace/keyboards/vintage-pre-1980 I have little interest in vintage synths as I don't have the patience/skill to try to keep them alive. If if you have one that's 100% working, in six months something will probably go out. Maybe I'd go for a Minimoog. Electro-mechanicals are a different story as they're relatively easy to maintain and parts are now pretty readily available. That Rhodes Bass looks pretty flawless. I do love finding 40-50 year old instruments that are in terrific shape. That's worth a lot. Busch.
richforman Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I had a 54-key Rhodes like the one listed on that Reverb.com page, back in the day. I think they only made that model for one year? MikeT156 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Burningbusch not withstanding, I am the original owner of a Prophet 5 Rev 3.2. I would not ask for 8 grand for the KB, but I would not sell it on the cheap. I had my Prophet gone over a few years back, replaced the KB Bushings, an OSC, and two front panel switches. Calibrated the synth, and its good to go. It amazes me that a synth that is 30 years old held up that well and still sounds so good. Yep, 8 grand is totally out of line, but I have musicians probe me and see if they can get it on the cheap. No thanks, I'll just keep it rather than get low balled and regret it later. Mike T. orangefunk Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Having heard a lot of modern boards I think the older ones STILL sound best to my ears while I don't think a CS80 is worth $15,000 (or whatever price it was advertised at) I do think the P5s, JP8s and the like should be at the 5k mark thats if they are in good condition I think I am rather scared about Oberheim's from the early 80s (I have a friend with an OBXa who is losing voices all the time) but the JP8s seem to be very robust... I did see JP8 here (excellent condition) for about $9000 (they are kinda rare in Norway) and was wondering about it for a moment but ouch that really is getting ridiculous...
MikeT156 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Hey Neil. Back in the old days, a music store I had done business with called me and asked me if I would be interested in any of the Yamaha CS series. He was getting some at a reduced price from Yamaha on close out, all new in the box. I played the CS80 and felt it sounded pretty good, but was a HUGE heavy beast, I did't buy any of the CS series. At the time I had my Prophet 5, a couple of Oberheim's, and some mono synths, all relatively new and in good working order. 15K for a CS80? I don't think so. Mike T. marino Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 In the early 80s, when everybody was thinking that the digital revolution would have wiped away every trace of the analog era, I passed on a CS80 for the equivalent of about $500. I lacked the space, and the patience to mantain it.

The Real MC Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Not only is that way out of line for a Piano Bass, but the PBs from that era are the worst sounding and they use tines that are impossible to find anywhere. I bought a LOT of analog during the great analog dump of the 80s... kept most of them and sold very few but not for crazy prices. Makes me feel glad I snagged my basketcase OBX in 2010, haven't seen any bargains like that in YEARS. Same with the OBSX. Both are creeping up to insane prices.
dodonnell Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Old musical instruments. Old cars. Old radios. Old paintings. Old books. Even old comic books. The prices keep going up, up, up. Who knows why? Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda. At various times, I was happy to get rid of those old keyboards (that were such a PIA to keep in working condition) and get a newer model. CEB Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Cool. I bought mine at a guitar shop for $65. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-SH-101-Vintage-Synthesizer-with-MGS-1-Modulation-Grip-/121492081133?pt=Keyboards_MIDI&hash=item1c497e09ed#ht_557wt_1127 I need the VCO adjusted on mine. Next, get any object of similar size and weight than the CS80 and practice all the required moves for a while... and as a last step, show at your friend's door with your new cart and a big smile. You can do it!

joegerardi Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Not just vintage music gear. A Waterman's Hundred Year Pen, (fountain pen) that was 12 bucks in 1941, is now on eBay for $1,100.00. I'm just about to sell my Bren Ten pistol (the one used by Sonny Crockett in the first two seasons of Miami Vice.) They were $400.00 new, and now they're bringing in well over $4000,00. I like the pistol and all, but I don't like it so much that with all the accessories and stuff I have that I won't take $4500.00 for it in a heartbeat. I bought my WWII M1 Garand about 7 years ago for 600 bucks. Can't touch one now for under 900. That's a 33 1/3% ROI in well less than 10 years. But unlike the Bren, that one will never leave. And don't even get me started on how much old versions of Keyboard Magazine have gone up! keyman27 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 In the late '80s when I was still a teen, a music buddy of mine was always trying to talk me into trading my DX100 (with mini keys) for his Minimoog.
