MAJUSCULE Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Confused that the "Urban Contemporary" and "Pop" segregation still exists. Beyoncé, not in the Pop category? Imma let you finish... Yes, I used the word "segregation". Hope I haven't put my toes over the line here... Eric Website Gear page
Philip Clark Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Confused that the "Urban Contemporary" and "Pop" segregation still exists. Beyoncé, not in the Pop category? Imma let you finish... Yes, I used the word "segregation". Hope I haven't put my toes over the line here... I'm just glad there are "urban" categories at all. Each year, they seem to disinclude Soul, R&B and Black American Music more and more. dama Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I'm glad Hozier's "Take Me To Church" is on the song of the year list. IMHO it's very well written, great melody and symbolic imagery, not to mention to emotion behind the vocals. I've been listening to Phantogram a bit lately also. Powerful use of synth sounds in their songs. I believe "Fall in Love" is a really successful electro-pop tune that could have been in there somewhere. mate stubb Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 There should be a category for "Best Performance Rescue of a Hopelessly Lame Pop Tune", for which I nominate Kate Davis and Postmodern Jukebox. No Treble Moe ---

CEB Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 New single released in November. I'm hoping it peaks next year and makes next year's list and cause a funk resurgence. Well a guy can hope. MAJUSCULE Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 What's the difference between Song of the Year and Record of the Year? Eric Website Gear page
Doerfler Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 What's the difference between Song of the Year and Record of the Year? if someone want's to correct me on this, that's OK, but here is what I have to offer on this question, taken and edited from Slate. Song of the Year is a songwriter's award. It rewards the songwriter for a song released (or that "first achieved prominence") during the past eligibility year. Record of the Year rewards a song's performance and production. Record of the Year recognizes the artist , the producers , and the recording engineers and mixers. Both Song of the Year and Record of the Year reward individual songs, but they recognize different aspects of the songmaking process.
